4.1 Introductory Activity Good morning Ma'am!!!

Good morning Clas!! Before we start our lesson, let us pray first. One student will volunteer to lead the prayer.

4.2 Motivation
Review the concept of a periodic table; show a sample of a periodic table Some students will share prior ideas/knowledge about

4.3 Analysis
Discussion Proper: The teacher will show a periodic table and inform the
student the objective of the lesson.
20 minutes

Alright class, when you hear the word periodic table, what comes into your Probable Answer: It is a chart containing different
mind? elements.

Introduce students to the periodic table: The Periodic table shows all the
atoms that everything in the known universe is made from. Each box
contains information about a different atom. It is kind of like the alphabet in
which 26 letters, in different combinations, make up many thousand of
words. the 100 or so atoms of the periodic table, in different combinations,
make up million of different substance.
Explain the difference between atom and element as they used
interchangeably as if they are the same thing, which is oftern confusing to
students.
Atom - is the smallest particle or "building block" of a substance.
Element - is a substance made up of all the same type of atom. For
instance, a piece of carbon is made up of only carbon atoms. This piece of
pure carbon is a sample of the element carbon.

Ask the students if they have any idea why it was called Periodic table of
Probable Answer:
Element instead of Periodic Table of the Atoms.

The people who developed the Periodic Table could have called it Periodic
Table of the Atoms but they did not have a firm understanding of atoms at
that time. Since they were working with actual samples of elements such
as copper, mercury, sulfur, etc., they called it the Periodic Table of
Elements.
Explain the meaning of the numbers and letters in the boxes in the
periodic table:

ATOMIC NUMBER - the number of protons in the nucleus of an atom,

which determines the chemical properties of an element and its place in
the periodic table.

SYMBOL - An element symbol is a one- or two-letter abbreviation for a

chemical element name. When a symbol consists of two letters, the first
letter is always capitalized, while the second letter is lowercase. Element
symbols also can refer to alchemy symbols for the elements or to the
symbols used to describe isotopes

ATOMIC MASS - the quantity of matter contained in an atom of an

element

NAME

Introduce to students the different sub-groups of atoms in the Periodic

Table.

4.4 Abstraction
Since we already understand the lesson, let us summarize it. Can anyone
share with the class what you recall form our discussion?
Some students will share their ideas.
10 minutes For your further understanding of the topic, I will show you a video
presentation.
4.5 Application
We will have an application of what you learned. I will give you a blank
periodic table, you must color it according to the different sub-groups. And Students will actively participate.
10 minutes
label each part of the Periodic Table.

4.6 Evaluation
The students will show that they can identify elements on the periodic
table.
The students will demonstrate that they know the sub-groups of the
periodic table by coloring in the periodic table correctly.
The students will know how to identify the atomic symbol, atomic
number and the atomic mass of each element by completing the quiz.

4.7 Assignment Have a further reading on the parts of a volcano and the importance of
knowing its parts.
