I .OBJECTIVES

Content Stardards The learners demonstrate an understanding of volcanoes found in the Philippines

Performance Standards The learners shall be able to participate in the activities that reduce risks and lessen
the effects of natural phenomenon such as volcanic eruption

Learning Competency/ies:

At the end of the lesson the students are expected to:

a. Identify the parts of a volcano

II. SUBJECT MATTER

A. TOPIC PARTS OF A VOLCANO

B. REFERENCE Science Learning Module, Google,Youtube

C. MATERIALS Powerpoint Presentation, Illustrations

III. Procedures:

TEACHER'S ACTIVITY STUDENT'S ACTIVITY

4.1 Introductory Activity Good morning Ma'am!!!

Good morning Clas!! Before we start our lesson, let us pray first. One student will volunteer to lead the prayer.
3 minutes Who wants to lead the prayer?

4.2 Motivation Some students will share prior ideas/knowledge about

Review the concept of volcano; Definition of volcano and parts of a volcano
10 minutes volcano by creating a concept map
4.3 Analysis Discussion Proper: Presentation of Slides with video and illustration of a
volcano. Teacher shows a picture of Mayon volcano and asks what they
already know about a volcano.

Probable Answer: A volcano is a mountain that forms

Alright class, when you think of a volcano, what comes into your mind?
when magma reaches the surface of the Earth

There are several parts of a volcano, each working together to produce an

eruption. The main volcano parts include:

Ash Cloud - A cloud of ash formed by volcanic explosions

Crater - The mouth of a volcano, which surrounds the vent

Conduit - An underground passage which magma travels through

Vent - An opening in the surface of the Earth through which volcanic

materials can escape

Magma chamber - A large underground pool of liquid rock found beneath

the surface of the Earth

Lava – Liquid rock that flows out from a volcano

Magma – Liquid rock inside a volcano. It can be runny or viscous (thick)

Magma – Liquid rock inside a volcano. It can be runny or viscous (thick)

Ash - Volcanic ash is a term for fine-grained material that is ejected during
explosive volcanic eruptions. Volcanic ash particles are smaller than 2 mm
(0.08 inches) in diameter.

Cinder cone - Cinder cones are also known as ash cones. Cinder cones
are the type of volcano that is formed by pyroclastic fragments like
volcanic ashes, solidified lava pieces, volcanic clinkers, pumice and hot
gases.

Dike - Dikes are tabular or sheet-like bodies of magma that cut through
and across the layering of adjacent rocks.

Throat - The uppermost section of the main vent is known as the volcano's
throat. As the entrance to the volcano, it is from here that lava and
volcanic ash are ejected.

4.4 Abstraction
Since we already understand the lesson, let us summarize it. Can anyone
share with the class what you recall form our discussion?
Some students will share their ideas.
10 minutes For your further understanding of the topic, I will show you a video
presentation.
4.5 Application

We will have an application of what you learned. I will show you an

Students will actively participate.
10 minutes illustation of a volcano then one by one the students will say the parts.

4.6 Evaluation Let us have a little activity to assess your learnings:

DIRECTIONS: Match the each statement to the correct answer.
1. Molten rock beneath Earth's surface
2. A small cone-shaped volcano formed by an
accumulation of volcanic debris
3. A flat piece of rock formed when
magma hardens in a crack in a volcano
4. An opening in Earth's surface
through which volcanic materials escape
5. Fragments of lava or rock smaller than 2 millimetres in size that are
blasted into the air by volcanic explosions
6. The part of the conduit that ejects lava and volcanic ash
7. A cloud of ash formed by volcanic explosions
8. Molten rock that erupts from a volcano Kindly get a 1/4 sheet of paper and answer the
10 minutes 9. A circular depression surrounding a volcanic vent questions.
