WEEK 1: LESSON PLAN

School: Gallanosa National High Grade Level: 9

School
Teacher: Joebert G. Cantillo Learning Area: Science
Time and Date: 1 session Quarter/Week/Day Q3W1D1

I. OBJECTIVES
CONTENT STANDARD: The learners demonstrate an understanding
of volcanoes found in the Philippines.

PERFORMANCE The learners shall be able to participate in the

STANDARD activities that reduce risks and lessen the
effects of natural phenomenon such as
volcanic eruption.

LEARNING COMPETENCIES Describe the different types of volcanoes

(S9ES -IIIa-25)

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
 Describe the different types of
volcanoes based on their shape
 Illustrate the different processes by
which volcanoes are formed

II – CONTENT: Topic/title DIFFERENT TYPES OF VOLCANOES

Unit/module: Unit 3 Module 1

Time allotment: 1 hour/ 1 hour and 15 minutes

IV. Procedure
ELICIT The teacher shows scattered letters on the
presentation alongside the image that
correspond to the word to guess the correct
term that is related to the topic.
ENGAGE The teacher asks big questions about
volcano that relate to their prior knowledge on
their previous grade levels or their general
insights upon hearing the word volcano. The
students brainstormed about words or
phrases that are linked with the word
“Volcano”
The teacher begins contextualizing the topic
of volcano since the town resides in the
vicinity of Mt. Bulusan.
EXPLORE The students present their task about the
words that they gather in connection to the
term “Volcano”. They will also compare their
work with the other groups.
EXPLAIN The teacher will try to establish connection
with the ideas of the students pertaining to
volcanoes. The teacher will explain how
those words are related to the topic.
ELABORATE Teacher begins giving a lecture.
Volcanism
• is a phenomenon connected with
volcanoes and its volcanic activity
• A volcano is a mountain that opens
downward to a pool of molten rock
below the surface of the earth
• Volcanoes are openings or vents in
the earth‘s crust.
• hot liquid rock under the Earth‘s
surface is known as magma
• Once the magma erupts through
the Earth‘s surface , it is called
lava

Underwater Volcanoes

TYPES OF VOLCANO

CINDER CONE
• Also known as scoria cone
• Forms when volcanic cinder or blobs
of congealed lava of basaltic
composition, comes out from one
vent.
• As high as 100 to 400 meters.
COMPOSITE VOLCANO
• Also known as a stratovolcano
• Can have a cluster of vents, with
lava breaking through the walls or
issuing from fissures on the
perimeters of the mountain
• Up to 100 to 3500 meters high
SHIELD VOLCANO
• Huge, gently sloped volcanoes
• Include a number of the biggest
volcanoes within the world
• Built by many layers of low-viscous
lava flows
• As high as 9000 meters from the
bottom

EVALUATE Answer the question: What is the

relationship between the locations of the
Philippines in the Pacific Ring of Fire to
the presence of volcanoes?
(Most earthquakes and volcanic eruptions do
not strike randomly but occur in specific
areas, such
as along plate boundaries. One such area is
the circum-Pacific Ring of Fire, where the
Pacific Plate meets many surrounding plates.
The Ring of Fire is the most seismically and
volcanically active zone in the world.)
