practicing new skills #1
Explain
(15 mins.)
1.

Cinder cone or scoria cone is a steep conical hill of

loose pyroclastic fragments, such as either volcanic
clinkers, cinders, volcanic ash, or scoria that has been
built around a volcanic vent.

2.

Shield volcano is a type of volcano usually composed

almost entirely of fluid lava flows. It is named for its low
profile, resembling a warrior's shield lying on the ground.

3.

Composite volcano is also known as a stratovolcano. These

volcanoes form tall, conical shaped mountains. Most of the
Earth's active volcanoes have formed a ring around the
Pacific Ocean. There are 452 stratovolcanoes in the Pacific
Ring of Fire. The volcanoes are located in a volcanic arc on
the continental side of subduction zones.
E. Discussing new concepts
and practicing new skills#2 4.
(10 mins.)

Lava dome or volcanic dome is a roughly circular

mound-shaped protrusion resulting from the slow
extrusion of viscous lava from a volcano. Dome-
building eruptions are common, particularly in
convergent plate boundary settings.

(Teacher should provide rubric for this activity).

F.Developing mastery
(Leads to Formative Assessment Based on the discussion, how can you describe the

Elaborate How can you appreciate the feature of volcano according to
its type?
G. Finding practical applications of The different types of volcanoes may give information to the
concepts and skills in daily learners how significant it is. How can you give value to the
living types of volcano?
(3 mins.)

H. Making generalizations and

abstractions about the lesson Why does volcano may form in different types? Which is most
(3 mins)
dangerous type of volcanoes when erupts?

I. Evaluating learning
(8 mins)

J.Additional activities for application or

remediation Describe the different types of volcanoes.
(1 min)

1. Cinder cone - Cinder cones are the simplest type of

volcano. They are built from particles and blobs of
congealed lava ejected from a single vent.
2. Lava dome - a mound of viscous lava which has been
extruded from a volcanic vent.
3. Shield volcano - Shield volcanoes are formed by lava
flows of low viscosity - lava that flows easily.
Consequently, a volcanic mountain having a broad
profile is built up over time by flow after flow of
relatively fluid basaltic lava issuing from vents or
fissures on the surface of the volcano.
4. Composite volcano - A composite volcano is also
known as a stratovolcano. These volcanoes form tall,
conical shaped mountains. Most of the Earth's active
volcanoes have formed a ring around the Pacific
Ocean. There are 452 stratovolcanoes in the Pacific
Ring of Fire. The volcanoes are located in a volcanic
arc on the continental side of subduction zones.

V. REMARKS From the discussion about different types of volcanoes, how

can identify the types of volcanoes according to its
classification as active and inactive?
VI. REFLECTION
A. No .of learners who earned
80% on the formative assessment
B. No. of learners who require
additional activities for remediation.
C. Did the remedial lessons
work? No. of learners who have
caught up with the lesson.
D. No .of learners who continue
to require remediation
E. Which of my teaching
strategies worked well? Why did
these work?
F.What difficulties did I encounter
which my principal or supervisor can
help me solve?
G. What innovation or localized
materials did I use/discover which I
wish to share with other teachers?
