2. Content The 6 types of volcanic eruptions.
3. Learning
Laptop, HDMI, TV, and PowerPoint presentation about the topic.
Resources
4. Procedures
4.1 Introductory (1) Prayer.
Activity (2) Ask the learners how they are.
( 5 minutes). (3) Ask students on their previous topic for refresher and introduce the new
topic.
(3.1) The teacher will group the class into 2 and then show the introduction
on the TV screen
(3.2) All learners read the question loudly.
(3.3) The learners are given ten (10) seconds to identify the answer and
will say it at the same time
(3.4) The teacher then flashes the correct answer on the TV screen and
provides the team with their corresponding scores..

(4) The set of description are as follows:

1. What type of volcano is characterized by a broad, gently
sloping cone?
Answer: Shield volcano
2. What is the term for the volcanic ash that is carried high into
the atmosphere during an eruption?
Answer: Ash cloud
3. What type of eruption is characterized by a gentle flow of
lava?
Answer: Effusive eruption
4. What is the term for the molten rock that is released during a
volcanic eruption?
Answer: Lava
5. What is the term for the type of volcanic eruption that is
characterized by a tall ash plume and a loud roar?
Answer: Explosive eruption
(1) Let the learners take note of the description of the different kinds of
volcanic eruptions by letting the learners read them again as these are being
flash on the TV screen.
(2) The teacher then explain a certain topic
(3) The teacher read the next slide and ask a volunteer to explain the topic.
4.2
Encourage the learners to share their ideas even they think it is wrong, and
Activity/Strategy
explain to them that the correct answer is to be discovered together.
( 10 minutes).
(4) Let the learners read the description on the screen and explain the rest
to the class
(5) The teacher then explains the idea being presented in the simplest
words or in vernacular language.
(6) Encourage the learners to ask or clarify things about the presentation.
4.3 Analysis (1) The student will then answer the following questions that corresponds
( 5 minutes). with the picture bellow.

ANSWERS:
1. Icelandic Eruption
2. Vulcanian Eruption
3. Strombolian Eruption
4. Pelean Eruption
5. plinian Eruption
6. Hawaiian Eruption
Different kinds of volcanic eruptions

1. Ask volunteers to recap what we have discussed.

2. Ask students the following question:
Can you rank the different eruptions by its explosivity?

The Plinian type is an intensely violent kind of volcanic eruption exemplified

by the outburst of Mount Vesuvius in Italy in 79 CE that killed the famous
Roman scholar Pliny the Elder. In this type of eruption, gases boiling out of
gas-rich magma generate enormous and nearly continuous jetting blasts that
core out the magma conduit and rip it apart. The uprushing gases and
volcanic fragments resemble a gigantic rocket blast directed vertically
upward.

Vulcanian eruptions are more explosive than Hawaiian and Strombolian

eruptions, and they are characterized by the ejection of large amounts of ash,
gas, and rock fragments into the air. The eruption column can reach several
kilometers high, and the ash can travel long distances.

A Pelean eruption is associated with explosive outbursts that generate

4.4 Abstraction pyroclastic flows, dense mixtures of hot volcanic fragments and gas
( 10 minutes) described in the section Lava, gas, and other hazards. Pelean eruptions are
named for the destructive eruption of Mount Pelée on the Caribbean island of
Martinique in 1902. The fluidized slurries produced by these eruptions are
heavier than air but are of low viscosity and pour down valleys and slopes at
great velocities. As a result, they are extremely destructive.

Icelandic eruptions are typically non-explosive and relatively gentle

compared to other types of volcanic eruptions, with lava flowing out of
fissures or vents in the Earth's crust. The lava can flow over large distances,
creating vast lava fields and shield volcanoes.

Strombolian eruptions are characterized by frequent, small explosions that

eject cinders, ash, and blobs of molten lava into the air. These eruptions are
caused by the buildup of gas bubbles in the magma, which burst at the
surface.

Hawaiian eruptions are characterized by the effusive eruption of basaltic

lava. The lava flows out of the volcano and spreads over a large area, forming
shield volcanoes. These eruptions tend to be non-explosive, and the lava flows
steadily and relatively slowly.

a) The release of lava and ash from a volcano

b) The sudden movement of tectonic plates
c) The release of water from a dam
d) The explosion of a nuclear reactor
2. Which of the following types of volcanic eruptions is characterized by a
mixture of steam, ash, and fragments?

a) Pelean eruption
b) Hawaiian eruption
c) Strombolian eruption

4. What is a pyroclastic flow?

a) A flow of molten lava

b) A cloud of volcanic ash and gas
c) A flow of hot gases and volcanic debris
d) A type of volcanic eruption that creates new land

5. This type of eruption is characterized by a mixture of steam, ash, and rock

fragments, and is named after the volcano on which it was first observed in
1944.

6. This type of eruption is named after the famous Roman historian who
witnessed the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD, and is characterized by a
high eruption column that can reach several tens of kilometers in height.

7. This type of eruption is common in shield volcanoes, and is characterized

by the effusion of lava flows that can travel long distances from the vent.

8. This type of eruption is named after the Italian volcano that is known for its
frequent small explosions, and is characterized by the ejection of
incandescent lava fragments and ash.

ANSWER:
1. a) The release of lava and ash from a volcano
2. d) Surtseyan eruption
3. d) All of the above
