Teacher Doreen Graziel A. Learning Area Science 8
Sabulao
Teaching Dates and April 21, 2021 Quarter THIRD
Time

Objectives must be met over the week and connected to the curriculum standards. To meet the objectives, necessary procedures
must be followed and if needed, additional lessons, exercises and remedial activities may be done for developing content
I. OBJECTIVES knowledge and competencies. These are assessed using Formative Assessment strategies. Valuing objectives support the learning
of content and competencies and enable children to find significance and joy in learning the lessons. Weekly objectives shall be
derived from the curriculum guides.

A. Content Standards
The Learners demonstrate an understanding of the identity of a substance
according to its atomic structure
B. Performance Standards

The Learners should be able to determine the number of protons, neutrons

and electrons in a particular atom. (S8MT-IIIe-f-10 )
C. Learning Competencies /
Objectives

Content is what the lesson is all about. It pertains to the subject matter that the teacher aims to teach. In the CG, the content can
be tackled in a week or two.

II. CONTENT

The number of Protons, Electrons and Neutrons

List the materials to be used in different days. Varied sources of materials sustain children’s interest in the lesson and in learning.
III. LEARNING RESOURCES Ensure that there is a mix of concrete and manipulative materials as well as paper-based materials. Hands-on learning promotes
concept development.

A. References
1. Teacher’s Guide pages Pages 97-99

Self Learning Module:

2. Learner’s Materials pages Science 8 Quarter 3-Module 6: The Number of Protons, Neutrons and
Electrons

3. Textbook pages Learner’s Manual pp. 203-207

4. Additional Materials from

Learning Resource (LR) portal

Science Links, ppt presentation, projector

B. Other Learning Resources

These steps should be done across the week. Spread out the activities appropriately so that students will learn well. Always be
guided by demonstration of learning by the students which you can infer from formative assessment activities. Sustain learning
IV. PROCEDURES systematically by providing students with multiple ways to learn new things, practice their learning, question their learning
processes, and draw conclusions about what they learned in relation to their life experiences and previous knowledge. Indicate
the time allotment for each step.

A. Reviewing previous lesson or Literacy skills

presenting the new lesson
(Intradiscplinary link from Science 8 Subject)
Instruction:
Call students to pick a number in the box. The number picked has a corresponding
question to be flashed in the powerpoint presentation and the whole class will
read it. The student who picks the number will give the answer.

ACTIVITY TITLE: KNOCK ! KNOCK! WHO’S THERE?

Questions:

1. I am the smallest unit of matter. Who am I?

2. I am positive and I am located at the nucleus of the atom. Who

am I?

3. I am the lightest among the three. I am negative. Who am I?

4. I am an uncharged and heaviest among the three subatomic –
particles. Who am I?

> Ask the students what they have observed in the given picture.

WHAT DOES THE SYMBOL TELL US?

B. Establishing a purpose for

the lesson

 Call one representative from each group to post the paper strips
identifying the atomic mass, atomic number and element symbol of
a given picture
 Introduce the following terms to the learners :

1. Atomic number- refers to number of protons found in the

nucleus of an atom
2. Atomic mass/ mass number – the sum of number of protons
and neutrons in an atom.

C. Presenting examples/ The students will identify the atomic number of each element (NUMERACY SKILL)
instances of the new lesson

2. The students will identify the atomic mass of each element NUMERACY SKILL)
 The teacher will show a picture of sample element (Helium) and let the students
describe what they have observe .

D. Discussing new concepts and The class will be divided into 3 groups. Each group will answer the questions.
practicing new skills #1

Instruction: Refer to the given table in answering the questions.

Set A questions
1. What is the atomic number of Ca? Ar? Br?

2. What is the number of protons of Ca? Ar? Br?

3. What is the number of electrons of Ca? Ar? Br?
4. What have you observed in your answers in numbers 1,2,3?

Set B questions
1. What is the number of protons of Ca? Ar? Br?
2. What is the number of neutrons of Ca? Ar? Br?
3. What is the atomic mass of Ca? Ar? Br?
4.How do we get the atomic mass of Ca, Ar and Br?
Set C questions
1. What is the atomic mass of Ca? Ar? Br?
2. What is the atomic number of Ca? Ar? Br?
3. What is the number of neutrons of Ca? Ar? Br?
4. How do we get the number of neutrons of Ca, Ar and Br?

> The teacher will distribute the activity sheet to the students.
> The students will answer the activity individually.
ACTIVITY TITLE: (DIY) DO IT YOURSELF (NUMERACY SKILL)
Instruction: Write the symbol representation for each element below. Determine
the number of electrons and neutrons. Write you answer in box provided

E. Discussing new concepts and

practicing new skills #2

 Call three students to share their answers to the class.

F. Developing Mastery  The teacher will assign activity for each group with rubrics.
Differentiated activities
Group 1- Complete the graphic organizer ( Interdiscpinary link from
English Subject) (LITERACY SKILL)
Group 2 – Complete the table (Numeracy Skill, Interdisplinary link from
Math Subject)
Group 3 – Choose and color 2 elements from the periodic table, Write the
symbol representation for each element. Determine the number of
electrons and neutrons.

G. Finding practical applications Students will read a situation. Use the periodic table as a guide in answering and
of concepts and skills in daily
living follow the sample format below. (LITERACY SKILL and NUMERACY SKILL)
1. Ms. Graye bought a gold necklace and silver earrings from the department
store. Help Ms. Graye write the element symbol for gold and silver and
determine the atomic number, atomic mass, protons, electrons and
neutrons of gold and silver.

2. The favorite fruit of Bob is banana which is rich in potassium.

Write the element symbol and determine the atomic number, atomic mass,
protons, electrons and neutrons of potassium.

H. Making generalizations and Instruction: Supply the sentences with appropriate words. (Literacy skills)
abstractions about the
lesson
1. The atomic number iis equal to the number of ____.
2. The mass number is equal to the sum of the number of protons and
____.
3. In neutral atom, the number of _____ is equal to the number of
protons.
4. The number of neutrons is equal to the difference of ______ and
atomic number.

I. Evaluating learning

J. Additional activities for > Using the periodic table choose 2 elements and determine its atomic number,
application or remediation
atomic mass, protons, electrons, and neutrons
V. REMARKS

Reflect on your teaching and assess yourself as a teacher. Think about your students’ progress this week. What works? What else
VI. REFLECTION needs to be done to help the students learn? Identify what help your instructional supervisors can provide for you so when you
meet them, you can ask them relevant questions.

A. No. of learners who earned 80%

on the formative assessment

B. No. of learners who require

additional activities for
remediation

C. Did the remedial lessons work?

No. of learners have caught up
with the lesson
D. No. of learners who continue to
require remediation

E. Which of the teaching strategies

worked well? Why did these
work?

F. What difficulties or challenges

which my principal or supervisor
can help me solve?

G. What innovation or localized

material did I use/discover which
I wish to share with other
teachers?
