Content Standard:
The learners demonstrate an understanding of volcanoes found in the Philippines.
Performance Standards

volcanic eruption
Learning competency:
The learners shall be able to explain what happens when volcanoes erupt.

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson 75% of the learners are expected to;
a. Characterize a volcano;
b. Classify volcanoes as active or inactive; and
c. Explain what happens when volcanoes erupt.

 Preliminary Activities
 Prayer
Requesting everyone to please stand for our
prayer. Kindly lead the prayer Arbolonio. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the
Holy Spirit, Amen! Dear Father in heaven,

up a piece of papers under your chairs, arrange
your chairs properly and organize yourself.
Okay, please be seated. Thank you, Ma’am!

 Checking of Attendance
As for your attendance, instead of saying
present, say “I’m Happy” if present and “So
Sad” if absent. Okay? Yes Ma’am!
(The teacher checked the attendance)

John I’m happy Ma’am!

 Collecting of Assignment
Do you have an assignment, kindly pass it
forward. (The students pass their assignments)

 Classroom Rules

Before we proceed to our new lesson this

morning, we have the three rules in this
classroom. First, listen if your teacher he/she is
talking in front of you. Second is respect, it is
very important to respect someone. Last, if you
have any questions or clarifications just raise
your hand and do not answer in a chorus way.

Are we clear? Yes Ma’am.

 Developmental Activities
A. Review of the Past Lesson
Yesterday we had a pre-test and I know some
of you got the correct answer. Since this is our
first topic in this module I want you to listen
and observe.
Are we clear?
Yes Ma’am.
Very good!

Today we are going to learn another concept

but this time we will focus on the earth science
specifically geology.

B. Motivation
Since you were in elementary, you have heard
about volcanoes. But do you know what a
volcano is and its purpose on earth? Ma’am,

Yes, Jhondyll? Volcano is like a mountain however it serves

as an opening in the Earth’s surface where
molten rocks, smoke, gases, and ashes are
erupted.
Thank you Jhondyll, lets find out as we go
along our topic.

 ELICIT
Before anything else, in order for us to be
guided in our discussion, I would like you to
read our objectives.
Kindly read everyone! 1.Characterize a volcano;
2. Explore the external parts of a volcano; and
3. Explain what happens when volcanoes erupt.
Based on the objectives posted, what do you
think is our topic for today?

Right!
Our topic for today is about “Volcanoes”.
 ENGAGE
Let us measure first your knowledge about
volcanoes by answering this question.

1. How do you characterize a volcano?

Ma’am.
Fantastic! Volcanoes can be characterized by their
eruption style, shape, and type of lava.
2.What are the types of volcanoes? Eruption styles include explosion and effusive.

Very good!
STRATOVOLCANOES (composite) kindly Ma’am!
read everyone! There are main types of volcanoes, first is
stratovolcanoes, second is shield volcanoes and
last is cinder cone volcanoes.

Yes Ma’am,
These have steep slopes and are characterized
by explosive eruptions. They often have a
composite structure of alternating layers of
lave, ash, and rocks.

Thank you, when we talk explosive eruptions

is a rapid release of energy.

How about the SHEILD VOLCANOES?

Kindly read everyone!

Okay Ma’am.

Yes Ma’am,
Thank you, non-explosive or effusive eruption SHEILD VOLCANOES-These volcanoes have
style the lava flows slow not just like the broad, gently sloping slides and are associated
with non-explosive eruptions. They are
explosive.
primarily formed by the flow of lo viscosity
lava.
Last, the CINDER CONE VOLCANOES,
kindly read everyone!

Okay Ma’am.

Yes Ma’am,
CINDER CONE VOLCANOES- These are
Thank you, each type has distinct smaller in size with steep sides. They are
characteristics based on their eruption style and formed from the accumulation of volcanic
shape. debris, such as ash and volcanic rocks, rejected
during eruptions.

Are you with me class?

 EXPLORE
Now, open your book on page 165, and what
you have observe about the picture?
Yes, Ma’am.

Okay Ma’am.

The picture shows the Mayon volcano before

and after it erupted. Shows that there is an ash
Very good! clouds, lava flows and volcanic gases.

 EXPLAIN
For now I will present you a video and I want
you to watch and observe on how volcanoes
erupted and what are the inactive and active
volcanoes here in the Philippines.

Okay Ma’am,
(The students watch the video)

 APPLICATION

Give real life examples where you can observe

volcano eruptions or locations of volcano in
the Philippines.

Yes, Bea?

 GENERALIZATION
So what is volcano again and what are the Ma’am,
types of volcano? Taal in Batangas is the second and most active
volcano in the Philppines and also Mt. Kalayo
Yes Mark? here in Bukidnon.

Ma’am,

A volcano is a geological feature where

magma, gas, and ash from within the earths
crust erupt onto its surface. This process can
Okay, very good, I assume all of you now create various landforms, and there are three
understood our prior discussion. Any questions main types of volcanoes. These are
or clarifications? Stratovolcanoes, Shield volcanoes and Cinder
cone volcanoes.

 EVALUATION None so far Ma’am.
