June 2023 Newsletter

Dear Parents/Guardians,

I would like to bring the following announcements to your attention

Confirmation: Congratulations to Sixth Class pupils that made their Confirmation at Kilkishen church on
Friday June 9. Thank you to Fr. Donal for celebrating the ceremony and to Ms. McNamara for co-ordinating
the beautiful music and singing on the day. The school staff hosted a reception for families back at Kilkihsen
N.S. where food donated by parents was enjoyed by all. Thank you to parents, pupils, teachers and extended
families for making the day such a memorable and special occasion.

Cumann na mBunscol Camogie Champions: Kilkishen/O'Callaghans Mills were crowned Division 2

Cumann na mBunscol champions with a stunning performance and victory over Sixmilebridge at Cusack
Park on Thursday June 15. The girls saved their best performance of the year for the final and recorded a
famous victory to add to the Division 3 title won last year. Congratulations to all the girls involved.
The following day the team received a heroes’ welcome as they paraded the Division 2 camogie shield
through Kilkishen village. Young and old lined the village to show their appreciation for a wonderful
performance and victory. The panel of girls were introduced and spoke with supporters at the G.A.A.
clubhouse. Thank you to all that were available to attend and help celebrate this special achievement.

School Tours: Pupils in 4th, 5th and 6th classes headed to Tralee Co Kerry on their school tour on
Wednesday June 14. The tour started with a visit to the Kerry County Museum in Tralee where pupils
enjoyed the medieval experience of learning about the history of the town. They were treated to an
archaeological activity where they examined an ancient find. Pupils enjoyed the wonderful Tralee Park in
the centre of town before enjoying the water activities at the Aquadome in Tralee. Thank you to all staff and
pupils for making the very special day possible.

1st, 2nd and 3rd classes had a fantastic day out on Thursday June 15 when they headed off on their school
tour to Turoe Pet Farm. They started the day in Inflatable city, they then headed to play in Jungle Town,
they got to feed and pet all the animals on the farm and played in both playgrounds. They finished the day
on a high by coming back to Cusack Park to support the schools camogie team in winning the Cumann na
mBunscol Final.

Class Allocation for 2023-24: The school enrolment figures for 2023/2024 have resulted in the continued
mainstream teacher allocation of 5 mainstream teachers. A second Special Class will open with the addition
of two permanent teaching positions. Mr. Ciarán Morrissey and Ms. Emma Glesson have been appointed to
these positions and we hope they will enjoy their time teaching at Kilkishen N.S. We welcome them to our
school and wish them the very best in their new roles.

To ensure the lowest pupil teacher ratio across the entire school the current Junior Infant class and Fourth
class will be reconstituted for the coming year. A separate letter will issue to parents of pupils in both these
classes detailing their allocation for the coming year. The following are the teaching arrangements for the
2023-2024.
