Dear Parents/Guardians,

I hope everyone had an enjoyable mid-term break. I would like to bring the following announcements to
your attention:

“Welcome Isabella”

New Pupil in First Class: We would like to give a very warm welcome to our new First Class pupil Isabella
Calil Covuia. Isabella joined our school on October 13 and we hope she has a wonderful time with us all in
Kilkishen N.S. Isabella is teaching us all a little Portuguese which is spoken in her native country of
Brazil.We look forward to learning lots from Isabella and hope that she is enjoying school at Kilkishen N.S.

Cumann na mBunscol Girls Football Semi-Final:

Girls Football: Well done to the 5th and 6th Class girls who played the Division 2 Cumann na mBunscol
semi-final against Lissycasey on Wednesday October 26. Unfortunately, they didn't secure the win but their
teamwork and determination ensured an exciting game against a very strong side. Thank you to their
coaches Ms Whitney, Ms MacLean and Ms. Fawl.

Fundraiser in Aid of Cahercalla Hospice: Our school Halloween dress-up day raised €150 in aid of
Cahercalla Hospice. Thank you to everyone that donated and supported this worthy cause.

Parents Association Committee: Following the recent elections, the following parents have accepted the
roles of class representative on the Parents' Association Committee for the coming school year. The PAC
has also elected the following executive:

Junior infants: Fergus Donovan.


Seniors infants: Ashling Casey
(Chairperson).
First class: Ollie Nash.
Second class: Nicole Zimmermann
(Treasurer).
Third class: Sinéad Frost.
Fourth class: Janice O'Malley.
Fifth class: Orla O'Mara (Assistant
Secretary).
Sixth class: Ann-Marie Kiernan
(Secretary).
Parent nominee to the Board of
Management: Pamela Davey.
Parent nominee to the Board of
Management: Patrick Hogan.

We wish the Committee the very best for the year ahead and I look forward to working with them for the
betterment of all pupils attending Kilkishen N.S.
Carol Singing: Following ideas put forward by our Students’ Council, our school will begin Christmas
celebrations this year with a trip to Carrigoran House in Newmarket on Fergus on Friday December 9.
Pupils from 1st to 6th classes will carol sing from 11 am for residents at Carrigoran House in preparation for
Christmas. We look forward to a great occasion for our school and the residents at Carrigoran House. More
details will follow closer to the date.

Schools Cross-Country Running: Pupils that finished in the top 12 and teams that finished in the top 3 at
the East Clare Primary Schools Cross Country event in October have now qualified for the Clare Cross
Country Schools Finals taking place on Tuesday November 15 starting at 11 am. Kilkishen U/8 boys and
girls have qualified along with our boys’ u/10 team. Athletes that have qualified will travel by bus leaving
Kilkishen N.S. at 10am. Best of luck to our athletes’ taking part.

Intel Mini Scientist Competition:

A school Science showcase day will be


held on Monday November 14 for pupils
from 4th to 6th class. An independent judge
from Intel will visit on November 14 and
select the school entry for 2022. We look
forward to the school showcase event and
best of luck to all pupils taking part.

Parent Teacher Meetings: Annual parent teacher meetings will take place during the last week of
November and the first week of December this term. Meetings will take place by phone. Should any parent
wish to have a meeting in person this will be facilitated. Times and dates for your child’s parent teacher
meeting will be sent home later this month.

Administration Fees: Fees for Accelerated Reader/ Insurance/Visual Art and Photocopying for the 2022-23
school year have been paused for the moment based on guidance from the Department of Education. A fee
of €40 per pupil capped at €100 per family usually collected at the end of September has covered these
expenses every year.

I would like to wish everyone all the best for the remainder of this school term. All classes this term will
prepare and perform a Christmas play which will be recorded and available on our school website before the
Christmas holidays. School closes on December 21 at 12noon for Christmas Holidays and reopens on
Thursday January 5 2023.
