for yesterdays Spirit Day?
A huge thank you goes out KML

Room 5 Writes!
Ms. Shulmans third graders are writing
paragraphs about the various cool activities
theyve been doing in class. Here are a few:
Blankets for Homeless Moms and Kids
By Caroline Mason
My classmates and I had a class party. For our
class party, we made blankets for homeless
moms and kids to keep warm. In order to
make a blanket, we had to cut straight lines in
the fabric. Next, we had to tie the little strips
we had made together. Then the blankets were
finished! Next, we had to put the blankets in
bags. My family was chosen to take the bags
of blankets to the homeless shelter. The next
day it was time to bring the blankets to the
homeless shelter and so we did. A couple of
weeks later they wrote me and my family and
my class a thank you note.
Room 5 Made Boxes
By David Little
Room 5 made planter boxes. First, we
measured the wood. We made a pencil mark
on the wood every 5 inches, and then every
7 inches. When everyone had finished that,
Elis dad took the wood to cut at his house.
Then, he brought the pieces of wood back to
school.
Later that day, we got to assemble our planter
boxes. First, we put glue on the bottom piece.
Next, we put in the wooden biscuits (to hold
the box together better). After that, we put on
two of the sides. Next, we put on the other
two sides where the glue on the other side

was. Once together, we measured the

perimeter. It was fun in all.
Writing Time Travel Stories
By Mary Francseschi
My whole class made time travel stories. They
were about Californian Indians. We made
these when we were learning about the
regions.
First, we got some information about our
regions 500 years ago and we chose a region.
Our choices were the Desert region, the
Mountain region, the Coast region, and the
Valley region. Second, we had to write a
rough draft and we had to write 3 or 4
paragraphs. After that, we had to type our
stories on a chromebook. When were done
typing we inserted pictures. Next, we had to
make a cover for our time travel stories and
color it. Finally, we read our time travel
stories to the whole class. After all, making a
time travel story was really fun because we
got to learn about Indians 500 years ago and
what the regions looked like back then.
Making Waves in Science
By Alessandra Moody
We learned how to make a wave with a slinky
in science. First two people had to hold two
sides. It was hard because the slinky was
tangled. Next I had to get five coils on one
side of the slinky. When I released the coils it
made a wave and a sound. Last we had to
write about what we did. It taught me all
about waves.
Movie Party
By Kaylee Shuster

Some things I loved about elementary school:

my teachers especially my 3 rd grade
teacher, Mrs. Reese!
One lesson I look forward to teaching each
year is: anything science! Hands-on
exploration is so awesome.
If I could live in any period of history, it
would be: The 40s (because of the fashion).
Something you'd be surprised to know about
me is: I love power tools!

Please, No Crosswalk Drop-Offs

You may have already noticed the new sign in
the left hand lane in front of the crosswalk
leading to the school, but for those who have
not seen it yet:
Please do NOT drop off your child in the
left hand lane at the crosswalk. Its not a
designated drop-off area just a stop sign.
With all the traffic in the morning, it can be
very dangerous to have a young child cross
unaccompanied, so please limit drop-offs to
the right hand lane (where Michelle often
waits to assist) or, if you are in the left hand
lane, continue past the stop sign and park
at the yellow curb in front of the daycare.
Thanks so much!

Rotary Club Learn to Swim

Program
The Rotary Club has once again invited Apple
Blossom second graders to participate in the
Learn to Swim Program at Ives Pool.
This program is designed to give all 2nd
graders swim lessons and teach water
safety. Lessons begin on April 20th and end
on May 14, and will be 2 days per week. Days
and time to be determined. Students will go
on a bus to the program during the school day.
The Rotary Club needs volunteers to help
instruct the students. You do not need to be
a former competitive swimmer or even a swim
instructor to help. They have supervision and
simple strategies as well as plastic cards at
poolside to refer to when teaching the kids.
Their goal is to have one instructor for every
three children. Please let your child's teacher
know if you can volunteer.
