Unit Aims
This unit aims to develop learners’ understanding of the purpose of research in the health and social
care sectors and the implications and ethical issues relating to this research. Learners will be able to
explore different research methodologies, enable them to plan and conduct their own research
relating to a health or social care issue and evaluate the success of the outcomes.

Assignment Brief and Guidance

You are required to produce a research project relating to an aspect of Health and Social
care. Learners should think about specific interests or topics which could support their further
study or intended career path.

You should:
• Develop the aims and objectives of the research project.
• Explain ethical considerations that apply to the area of the research project.
• Complete a literature review of chosen area of research.
• Develop relevant research questions.
• Formulate a detailed plan for the research project.
• Determine appropriate research methods for the research project.
• Conduct the research using identified research methods.
• Analyse the data and present findings.
• Formulate recommendations related to the chosen research topic
• Reflect how own research findings substantiate initial literature review.
• Make recommendations related to area of research.
• Identify potential uses for the research findings within practice.

Delivery and Submission


The submission is in the form of a research project written in Word format. The
recommended word limit is 2000 words excluding diagrams, references, and appendices.
Referencing
You are expected to use relevant academic and reliable sources, and clearly reference these
in your work. References should be added to the text and placed at the end in a references
list, using Harvard Referencing style.
You should complete a bibliography to support all evidence.
