1 PDS
1.1 Line Toolbar
1.1.1.1 "P" quickStep entry (Control Section tool) for Pivot Dart (ADV PDS
ONLY)
Similar to V quickStep. The user must create a T-shaped section, select the section, click the vertical line
of the T-shaped section to initiate the tool. The difference is the selected section is rotated to create the
V-shape. The number entered is the gap distance. If the T-shape is a subsection, then the surrounding
section is proportionally adjusted and the anchor (blue) point (TAB key selection) processing applies
here. If the vertical section of the t-section is intersecting other lines, those intersecting lines are cut by
the vertical section and the cut lines are rotated (pivoted) just like the V-shape.

StyleCAD 7.0 Release Note
Click the selected section with quickstep ‘B’ (Control Section tool or Ruffle/Shirring tool) to start
the section blending process. After creating the blending curve, press the Keep button.
1.1.1.4 Section Bezier Blending Method – QuickStep ‘BB’ (ADV PDS ONLY)
Similar to the section blending tool, the Bezier Blending method can be brought up by “BB”
quickstep entry with either the Control Section tool or the Ruffle/Shirring tool. The difference is
that this is a curve manipulation by dragging the Bezier control points. Similar feature exists in
popular drawing tools such as Illustrator. Select a section to blend, type BB into quickstep entry,
then click the selected line. Optionally additional curve points (up to 3) can be added to allow
creating more complicated curve using quickstep entry of “BB1”, “BB2” or “BB3”.

1.1.1.5 Section Point Reduction Method – QuickStep ‘R’ (ADV PDS ONLY)
Point reduction could be very useful especially after importing DXF files from other CAD systems.
With the quickstep entry of ‘R’, “R1”, “R2”, “R3”, or “R4”, the user can perform point reduction on
selected sections. The number indicates the accuracy level where 4 provides the highest level of
accuracy and therefore results in the most number of points. Level 1 results in the least number of
points but may show some deviation from the original curve shape. ‘R’ without the level defaults to
level 2.

StyleCAD 7.0 Release Note
The tool uses the internal lines to determine the dart origin position. The internal lines forming the
dart shape must be a straight line with no curve points. This method take the grading data into
consideration so that each size’s dart cap shape is correct. Type DC into the quickstep buffer and
pull a rubber band from one side of the dart to the other. The pull direction determines the dart fold
direction.

must be a straight line with no curve points. This method takes the grading data into consideration
so that each size’s pleat cap shape is correct. Type PC into the quickstep buffer and pull a rubber
band from one side of the pleat to the other. The pull direction determines the pleat fold direction.
The Custom symbol button is used to create your own symbol using combinations of several basic shapes.
If ‘Include End Points’ option is used, the custom symbol is placed on the 2 end points also. Include End
Points option applies to the punch hole type also but not to regular point types.

1.1.4.2 Arc using 2 Point And Tangent Line method (ADV PDS ONLY)
The Round Corner tool can be used to create arcs using 2 point with tangent line method or 3 points
method. The 2 point with tangent line defines the arc where the 2 points are the 2 end points and the
arc shape is determine by the tangent line angle. The 3 points method creates an arc that goes
through the 3 points. The following example demonstrates the 2 points tangent line method. The
method is initiated by quickstep entry of ‘2P’.

1.15 Misc.
During the layer selection, a preview window allows the user to see what is on each layer even
before importing takes place. Each line/point is colored based on the tool selected.
Another option added to AutoCAD dxf file importing is the feature to convert small circles into drill
holes. This feature is applicable only to the AutoCAD format. The user sets the maximum diameter
of the circle to be considered as a drill hole.

2 Grading
2.1 Guideline in Grading Mode
The sewing line vs. seam line controls in the view filter works in WYSIWYG fashion. In other
words, if the sewing line button is checked, the sewing line for all selected sizes is shown. If sewing
line input button is checked, the grading focus can be put on the sewing line grading points. Grading
a seamed point automatically grades the matching sewing line point (this was true for V6 also).
Also, grading the sewing line automatically grade the matching point(s) on the seam line.
Depending on the seam corner type, multiple grading points forming the seam corner shape might be
graded.

StyleCAD 7.0 Release Note
The Radial Grading tool has been improved significantly in V7. The tool is now only based on the
offset rather than distance. The V6 start and stop point grading options have all been removed but
replaced with more intuitive rules. By default, the grading at a corner point will be set in the same
manner as parallel lines are drawn. If either the start or the stop point is already graded, the grading
at the corner point is determined by intersection between the radial grading curve and the adjacent
curve.
A new start and stop point grading adjustment option ‘Along Guide Line’ has been added. A
guideline going through the point is intersected with the parallel radial curve to determine the
grading amount at the start and the stop points. This option allows the user to set the grading
orientation to any angle.
A new option ‘Lock Grading’ caused the tool to compute the offset automatically so that the newly
graded curve for each size meet the current corner grading data naturally. Therefore the grading data
at the specified corner does not change at all. The quickstep method of ‘Lock Grading’ is to first
select the section and then click the end point to ‘Lock Grading.’
The section graded with the radial grading is marked with No Auto Grading Blending. This is
because StyleCAD’s automatic grading blending algorithm grades curves using different method
than what the Radial Grading tool does.
- 59 -
StyleCAD 7.0 Release Note
The Parallel Line grading method creates the grading at the specified end point as if the parallel line
tool was used to create the grading lines.
- 60 -
StyleCAD 7.0 Release Note
- 61 -
StyleCAD 7.0 Release Note
The Perimeter Grading tool has an additional option where the perimeter length for each size is
adjusted without performing auto-grade blending. Therefore, the general shape of the curve for each
size does not change but the curve ending is either extended or trimmed as needed. The adjustment
can optionally be performed to both sides. This feature is available only if the Along the Curve
option (2nd button) is chosen and the Auto Blend button is turned off. Adjust Both Sides button is
available under those circumstances.

3 Marking
3.1 Zoom-In Out
In V7, the mouse wheel is used to center and zoom-in/out. It is no longer used to scroll the viewing
area up/down. Pointing a location in the workdesk and clicking the mouse wheel centers the view to
the location. Turning the wheel down zooms in toward the current screen center location and
turning the wheel up zooms out.

4 Output Manager
4.1 Font Size for Pattern Annotation
The user can set the smallest font size allowable for pattern annotation. There is separate control for
marker pattern annotation vs. style pattern annotation. For some plotters, 1/8 inch font size is too
small and this feature allows the user to avoid certain font sizes. The setting in the output manager
affects PDS/Marking/Plot Manager’s printing/plotting.
- 79 -
StyleCAD 7.0 Release Note
When a seamed pattern in a style file is plotted, the sections with no seam will no longer be plotted 2
times.
If an internal line is to be plotted for a cutting job, the line is displayed in green color to indicate the
type of tool used. All other lines to be cut are displayed in black as usual.
Limited to style file plotting, the user may choose to plot t-notches either before or after the outline
plotting. This feature is not supported for marker plotting since it would slow down marker plotting
too much. If knife is being used to cut the outline, this option is ignored since T-notches are always
plotted before the outline is cut.
- 80 -
StyleCAD 7.0 Release Note
5 Plot Manager
5.1 Plot Order
V6 Plot Manager did not sort the plotting order automatically so that the plotting order is not the
most efficient. In V7 this automatic ordering is performed.
If the automatic ordering is not satisfactory enough, the user may manually assign the plotting order.
Select the plot order tool and each pattern is displayed with the currently assigned plot order. Use
the quickstep entry to enter the plot order number and click the pattern to assign the number to.
After the click the number is auto-incremented to the next number so that the user can sequentially
click multiple patterns to assign the order. Click on an empty space to clear the quickstep buffer or
use the backspace key to back up and type in a new number.
- 81 -
StyleCAD 7.0 Release Note
The user may choose to plot t-notches either before or after the outline plotting. If knife is being
used to cut the outline, this option is ignored since T-notches are always plotted before the outline is
cut.

6 Auto Marker
6.1 Zoom-In Out
In V7, the mouse wheel is used to center and zoom-in/out. It is no longer used to scroll the viewing
area up/down. Pointing a location in the workdesk and clicking the mouse wheel centers the view to
the location. Turning the wheel down zooms in toward the current screen center location and
turning the wheel up zooms out.
Basic manual marking tools such as the slide tool (ESC or Space bar), buffer tool (LMB+B or
Control+B) and fusible block tool (LMB+F or Control+F) are available.
- 83 -
StyleCAD 7.0 Release Note
The operation of these tools is pretty much same as the manual marking program. But they are
somewhat limited. For example, the sliding tool does not come with all the options but is capable of
simple dragging action (single or multiple piece). There is no marking toolbar. Therefore other
tools may be accessed by short cut keys only. QuickStep method ‘J’ for grouping pieces is available.
If the Keep Placement option is used, this manual marking feature can eliminate the need for the user
to start the manual marking program. Also, grouping pieces before starting the automarking job can
sometimes result in better yield.
The Fusible Block tool is almost full featured including the automarking. However, adding
additional pieces to a block and manual marking within a block is not available.
After manual operations such as buffering, fusible blocking and pattern grouping are done, the
modified marker must be saved before the job is started. This is done by Control+S shortcut. There
is no Save button.
