Created through a student-tested, faculty-approved review process with
input from more than 250 students and faculty, GOVT is an engaging and
accessible solution to accommodate the diverse lifestyles of today’s
learners. Focusing on the current and historical conflicts and controversies
that define America as a nation, GOVT is a streamlined and extremely
current text for the American Government course. Its motivating debate
theme and appealing modern format speak directly to today’s learners.

Review
I believe that the content is exceptional. . . . I would say the greatest strengths of [GOVT] are the
fascinating debate and discussion questions and articles throughout the text. In addition, the writing
style is very engaging. Finally the writing level is comprehensible to the average community college
student, especially with the excellent use of graphs and charts throughout the text.

I cannot deny the fact that students did not read [my previous textbook] and are reading GOVT.
The students have said they prefer this style of text. . . . [T]hey seem to engage with the style of
GOVT better than other texts. . . . The Learning Outcomes are a very effective tool, and are
especially useful in how they highlight the beginning of the chapter, the beginning of each section of
the chapter and then tie it all together with the review cards at the end of the text. The Learning
Outcomes easily relate to the Student Learning Outcomes on the course syllabus, bridging the
course materials to the course documents.

It is amazing that in spite of its relative brevity, that it remains a fully comprehensive text. I dont
think any key points in the five chapters I reviewed are missed. I learned a lot of new and interesting
information by reading this book.

I have used other textbooks and am currently using GOVT because of its strengths and courage to
address more controversial topics without trying to politicize anything--makes for more interesting
reading.
