The facilities provided on the sidewalk are very important. This is because it can

facilitate the locals as well as tourists who pass through the road. Therefore, it will

attract tourists to come to Kuala Lumpur for travelling. Not only that, by providing

more facilities, it can make tourist easy and convenient for their travel experience

by walking. Moreover, tourist attraction like shopping mall and good restaurants

also play an important role to make tourist attract to visit the place. Other than

that, tourist will get the experience to use the public transport which is Monorel

because it is very near from the pedestrian route. In conclusion, facilities provided

at the pedestrian route gives a lot of good impact and benefits, not only the local

people but the tourist instead.

CONSTRAINT OR ISSUES TOURIST WILL ENCOUNTER WHILE USING THE

FACILITIES ALONG THIS ROUTE

1. Pickpockets - Pickpockets tend to target people at tourist attraction walkway


area or pedestrian walk. They often operate on motorcycles or other fast
moving vehicles.

2. Sexual harassment – Sexual harassment mostly occurs at the public area where
tourist or local people using pedestrian route from one places to another.

3. Safety at the environment – Since the area is one of the busy cities, there
will occurs a lots of traffic jam. This will make the tourist feel uneasy to walk
across the road.

4. Cleanliness at the pedestrian walk area – Other issues that tourist will encounter
is the cleanliness at the pedestrian walk area. Some of the irresponsible
people will defecates, urinates or spits in an open place.

5. Pedestrian route become a home to vagrants, beggars and drug addicts – This
will make the tourist and the local people feel unsafe and distracted by those
people.

6. Vandalisme – YThe irresponsible people will do vandalisme to the facilities


that are provided at the pedestrian route. For example, they spraying paint
on other’s properties and breaking the escalator.

7. Lack of adequate pedestrian facilities - Lack of facilities in public places


will be troublesome. There are no public toilets for the local people and tourist
and lack of trash can

SUGGESTIONS TO IMPROVE FOR THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE WALKING

FACILITIES

1. The responsible authorities should issue a warning signboard with fine Rm 1000
to the irresponsible people that do the vandalisme.

2. Provides more dust bin at attractions area to ensure the cleanliness at the
environment and pedestrian route.

3. The responsible party should schedule the cleaning services more frequently
to enjoy the clean of the walking facilities.

4. The authorities should monitor pedestrian areas so that there are no beggars,
drug addicts and homeless people stay at that place.

5. The authorities should be more aware about the safety of walking at the
pedestrian route. The component of the pedestrian safety also associated with
motorist behaviour and crossing exposure and security.

6. Provide a public toilets at the side of walkway for the local and tourist. It is easy
for people especially old generation.

8. Promote a greater awareness through road safety education and training,


and by ensuring that the traffic laws that prioritize pedestrians are widely
known and properly enforced.

9. Produce more pedestrian walkway sign. These signs help to decrease the
chance of accidents for pedestrian crossings and help you manage your
facility more efficiently.
