The student attended a Professional Communication class aiming to further their communication skills beyond what was learned in a previous class. Through these diverse assignments, the student was able to improve their research, vocabulary, writing structure, and public speaking skills. My aim in attending the Professional Communication class was to further my comprehension of
the fundamental efficient communication skills acquired from my previous writing communication class. My understanding is that there should be a minor difference between my present and previous class, thereby only acquiring a slight knowledge. However, I am surprised to realize that there is still much to gain in developing effective and efficient communication skills. I came to understand further improvement in proficient communication and writing skills can be gleaned from this class. The professional communication class begins by focusing on wider audiences' communication skills through knowledge acquired for writing competent instruction. The following step encourages adaptation in communicating succinctly through email correspondence while similarly engaging in communicating elaborate details through memo correspondence all the while being precise. The professional communication class emphasizes a different mode of communication through a video presentation assignment that improves the students' active speaking and listening skills. Finally, the class centers on writing approaches to technical writing on various focus research and analysis. Therefore, research and accuracy of my conceptual ideas also increase through continuous growth. My vocabulary increased as well due to extensive research done on my ideas. The increase in vocabulary helped increased my writing structure which improves the effectiveness and efficiency of my communication. Identifying and editing technical information has improved. This improvement came from understanding your audience and developing your persuasion skills. The more I explored and tried to apply my ideas, the more prepared I was. That confidence became apparent as my knowledge of the material I presented increased. I constantly use different mediums to identify and structure technical information such as instruction manuals, focus research, workplace correspondence, and PowerPoint presentations to improve progress. Perspectives from different media enhance my ability to communicate my technical information to my audience through a variety of compelling approaches. I have a hard time deciding which assignment I am most proud of because I thought they were equally important. The video presentation task would be my choice if I had to pick just one for this assignment. I selected the video presentation assignment since it was incredibly engaging and entertaining. Additionally, it challenges me to communicate in ways different than writing. The assignment I will add to the course is similar to the class exercises practices in class such as Weebly and Zotero.
