In the semester three of the 2021-2022 academic year, Business Communication was one of my
enrolled subject and this course has given me a great experience for my future preparation. The
purpose of the subject is to provide students knowledge of communication in businesses by both
writing and speaking as these activities are crucial in any business level. Business Communication
draws on a variety of disciplines, including psychology, sociology, linguistics, and general semantics.
Throughout the course, business project is an activity that help students achieve the goal- developing
the foundation of effective communication- and apply the theories into real circumstances. Hence, I
wrote this essay as a reflection of what I have achieved during Business Communication course.

In small groups, the lecturer guided us to complete a project for small companies, or non-profit
organizations. In the process of helping the businesses, communication is the major tool since we
had to contact the representatives, suggested our plans whether they met the partner satisfaction.
After creating the commitment, it was when we started to develop the strategies, evaluated some
possibilities could happen which was the first value we attained from the project.

At the beginning, my group started to list all of the potential partners also suggested several ways to
approach the organization then considered which plan would make our offer be succeed. Fortunately,
the negotiation was success and the representative from the organization agreed to make the
commitment with our team. The business project was a perfect opportunity for me to practice
theories of communicating. Throughout the process, we developed all of the possible strategy then I
realized that each of us had different perspectives. While a friend of mine thought our campaign was
not so effective, others thought the strategy was suitable with the company’s demand as well as our
ability. Eventually, we managed to unite all five members’ ideas and started the first stage. I was in
charge negotiating with founder from Cat Nursing Home, meanwhile my other teammates were in
charge of writing contents, running campaign, managing website, and accounting.

One of the thing that I am most appreciated is my business project team. After a semester working
together as a group, we got along with each other absolutely well, everyone did show the teamwork
spirits and embraced the individuality in spite of the differentiation. For the project, the remained
parts of our plans went smoothly and it was more than what I expected. Admittedly, I was
inexperienced in this field hence I was concerned about the result at first. However, the project
turned out successfully and I have learned numerous knowledge in this assignment such as language
in communication. As a representative for our team, I applied the four elements of languages, I
prepared for the structure of the business plan, considered the meanings of words. In communicating,
it is crucial to identify which types of language is appropriate to deliver our messages to the key
customers. Understanding the theories, I should use a persuasive, professional voice to demonstrate
our strategy clearly and details. Additionally, apart from the speech, visual aids also the important
factor because audiences not only listen to us, but also see what we are presenting about. Therefore,
combining visual and oral support have reinforced our presentation powerfully towards the business
partner.

To be conclude, the major achievement that I have obtained in this course is negotiating in business
effectively. When I am writing this reflective essay, I have learned how to be persuasive in front of
my business partner in both verbal and non-verbal communication. Although there are still
weaknesses that I need to improve, what I attained was valuable and I appreciated them profoundly.
Moreover, this opportunity has fulfilled my personal goal is the self-confidence. To be frank, most of
my personalities are introvert, thus I often get embarrassed in front of people, especially strangers.
Since I attend university, my presentation skill has already enhanced, but it was not until I started
working on the business project which made me confidently communicate in academic environment.
Group presentation related to business project is also the assignment that helped me competence in
presenting and managing the time. After this project, I should be well prepare for the upcoming
project in the future, the practical knowledge of the subject would help me deal with realistic
business contexts.
