UN DESA Division for Public Institutions and Digital Government. The United
Nations is an international organization founded in 1945 and committed to
maintaining international peace and security; developing friendly relations
among nations; promoting social progress, better living standards and
human rights. Due to its unique international character, and the powers
vested in its founding Charter, the Organization takes action on a wide
range of issues, and provides a forum for its 193 Member States to express
their views, through the General Assembly, the Security Council, the
Economic and Social Council and other bodies and committees. The work of
the United Nations touches every corner of the globe and focuses on a broad
range of fundamental issues, like sustainable development, protection of the
environment and refugees, disaster relief and mitigation, counter terrorism,
as well as disarmament and non-proliferation. The United Nations
Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) and its predecessors
have helped countries around the world meet their economic, social and
Organisation environmental challenges for more than 50 years. DESA’s mission - to
mission and promote development for all - reflects a fundamental concern for equity and
objectives equality in countries large and small, developed and developing. Within the
framework of the United Nations Development Agenda, DESA works on
issues ranging from poverty reduction, population, gender equality and
indigenous rights to macroeconomic policy, development finance, public
sector innovation, forest policy, climate change and sustainable
development. The Department also supports the effort to achieve the
Millennium Development Goals, a set of time-bound targets, which put the
eradication of poverty at the centre of the global partnership for
development. At the United Nations, DESA provides the substantive support
to intergovernmental processes on development issues in the General
Assembly and in the Economic and Social Council, its functional
commissions and expert bodies. DESA engages with a variety of
stakeholders around the world, including non-governmental organizations,
civil society, the private sector, research and academic organizations and
intergovernmental organizations, as well as our partner organizations in the
United Nations system.

Assignment This assignment is in the context of the 2024 United Nations E-Government
context Survey.
The main objective of this assignment is to contribute to data and case
studies research for the 2024 United Nations E-Government Survey by
conducting online assessment of national-level and/or city-level public
sector portals and associated official websites in a specific number of United
Nations Member States to be assigned. Successful candidates will each be
Task assigned between 2 to 4 countries and/or cities for review, according to
description his/her language skills. Timeline and tasks: - Between 28 June -28 July 2023 -
training and pilot assessment (approx. 2 days total) - Between 28 July–30
September 2023 - on-line data gathering and assessment (approx. 3 days
per country assigned) Support to Online Volunteers: Coordination,
monitoring and task related advisory and administrative support. We
recognize the volunteers’ contribution in the publication.
