Informal Types of Peer Coaching
Informal peer coaching is done outside the classroom setting wherein no
pre –conference and post-conference. The coaching process is based on the problem
or issue with the instructional and managerial evaluation within the educational system.
These are the following activities for informal types of peer coaching.
 Curriculum Mapping/Development- Both teachers evaluate the effectiveness
and process of the curriculum for some revisions. They help each other in finding
alternative ways to sustain the curriculum as valid and reliable.
 Problem Solving/Challenge Coaching- Involves group of teachers working
together to solve a specific instructional challenge or problem. They will both
identify the problems, plan the solution needed, and carry out the plan to achieve
success.
 Study Groups- This is the good example for technical peer coaching to help
teachers transfer what is learned in a workshop environment into the world of the
classroom. It is good way to implement technical coaching because study groups
allow teachers to engage in a professional dialog.
 Book Clubs- This activity is done with group of teachers working to make a good
instructional book for the teaching-learning process.
 Conversations about student work- This is done when group of teachers
sharing each other with their student works in order for them to reflect and
analyse the activities that may affect effective activities inside the classroom.
 Videotape analysis- This activity allows teachers to provide coaching through
videotapes from any sources and make some analysis with regards to the
instructional problems or issues.
 Story telling about teaching practices- This activity allows teachers to copy
and try out something the new strategies based on the experience of the other
teachers.
 Lesson study- This is the good activity for team coaching model which involves
a teacher who is highly skilled and knowledgeable in a specific area working with
another teacher to help him or her develop specific skills and strategies. In this
activity both teachers plan, implement, and evaluate the success of the lesson.
 Interdisciplinary unit planning- This coaching activity allows group of teachers
to conduct study across different units to make a new discipline for instructional
process.
 Analyzing student data and developing learning experiences- Group of
teachers interact with each other based on the status of their students and
develop new learning activities or approaches from the given interpretation of
student data.
