Independent T test

Def:
Also called independent sample T test. The
independent sample T test is use to compare the means of
two independent groups to determine whether there is any
statistical difference between the means two independent
groups.
This test is used when population mean and standard
deviation is unknown.
Uses :
The independent T test is commonly used to compare
the following
1)Statistical difference between the means of two
interventions
2)Statistical difference between the means of two groups
3)Statistical difference between the means of two change
scores.
Hypotheses:
The null and alternate hypotheses of the independent
T test are expressed in two different ways i.e
Null hypotheses:
Null hypotheses states that the two population means
are equal
Alternate hypotheses:
Alternate hypotheses states that the two population
means are not equal.
Assumptions:
The most common assumptions made during T-test are
the following
1) The first assumption oftenly made during T test is in
scale of measurement. The scale of measurement used
in t test should be ordinal or continuous.
2) The 2nd assumption is made in simple random sampling.
The data should be collected from representative
portion of population.
3) The 3rd assumption is made in the normal distribution of
data .The data plotted should be in normal distribution,
bell shaped distribution curve.
4) The 4th assumption is made in using large sample size.
The large sample size results in normal bell shaped
curve.
5) The final assumption is in homogeneity of variance. The
two populations should have equal variance.
