listening skills are a process of accepting or understanding meaning and responding to speech or non

-speech to hear something that involves a process of mind or thought. According to him, there are
two ways of effective communication, namely, depending on speech and hearing.

Intensive An active listener will focus intensively on what the speaker is saying and at the same time
be able to analyze thousands of types of information. In fact, the human brain is said to be able to
receive a speech rate of at least four times the average speech speed of a speaker. This process
provides an opportunity for the mind to think while listening. The human brain is also able to
summarize and integrate what is being said while the listening process is taking place.

2. Empathy Empathy requires listeners to think of themselves as speakers. An active listener is ready
to receive in addition to reviewing further what the speaker is conveying. The challenge for an active
listener is to accept and analyze what is being said and keep all disputes that arise in his heart until
the speaker has finished speaking. The listener also needs to have the willingness to accept the
problems faced while being willing to give the fruit of thought from the perspective of the listener
and speaker.

3. Build effective listening skills

There are several important features for building effective listening skills. Among them is by having
face -to -face interaction. In addition, individuals should avoid doing obstructions in terms of body
movements. Signs of understanding or agreement such as nodding of the head, change of face etc.
are also peerlu shown Also, individuals need to raise relevant questions sincerely. Avoid interrupting
the speaker's words if it is not necessary. Also, the individual is not excessive when speaking so as to
cause a sense of unease among the listeners. A perfect flow of information between speaker and
listener needs to be established.

4. Build response skills

The response required in listening skills is a positive response rather than a negative response. To
build positive response skills one needs to focus on specific behaviors rather than in general. For
example, giving immediate praise for good work by a subordinate and giving reasons why he should
be praised. If he makes a mistake, then it is necessary to be reprimanded well and sincerely so that it
can be corrected.

Also, make the response something informal by not criticizing others individually for a failure that
has occurred as this will touch one’s emotions. Instead it should be reprimanded with constructive
and acceptable reprimands by the speaker. It is also said to be a positive response in listening skills.

To build positive response skills, one needs to make the response timely so that the response is
more rational and practical. It is also for the response to be easily understood and accepted by all
listeners. The second type is passive listening. Passive listening does not involve a direct response by
the listener. Often there is also this situation of passive listening among students during the teaching
and learning process. Students who listen while the teacher is teaching do not have the opportunity
to respond verbally to the message heard.
