NAVISWORKS

THREE VERSIONS.
NAVISWORKS MANAGE: full functioning
NAVISWORKS SIMULATE: no clash detection no interference checking
NAVISWORKS FREEDOM. free viewer cannot save file timeline function availabel cannot create
timeline . will only open .nwd files

FILE TYPES.
.NWC (NAVISWORKS CACHE):
Generated in two ways.
1) If you open any kind of file its generated automatically. This acts as interpreter between
Navisworks and the software we are using . when you export a file to Navisworks . this
can be added or merged to Navisworks
.NWF (NAVISWORKS FILE SET):
Serves as a host for all added or merged file. Contains live links to the contributing NWC files. Its
used for production. Reason is it gets automatically updated when we update the Revit or
autocad file attached to nwc . if nwf model is send to somebody all the links should be attached
.NWD (NATIVE MODEL):same as nwf , but the links are removed no need to attach the links
while sending to somebody

OPENING FILE
Click N > open > select the file type >file open (creates a .nwc file in the folder of revit)

Working with revit directly

Any changes made in revit can be updated in Navisworks by clicking refresh after saving the
revit file.

Click append and select the multiple items simultaneously and open the files. Verify on
selection tree(home tab>selection tree.) or properties(home tab >properties).
If you are adding more files to the existing (DWGs, RVTs, NWCs) then use append.

2) Point to multiple point
3) Point line :measures distance from point to point in continuous manner
4) Accumulate : distance from point to point summed up as whole
5) Angle
6) Area

FINDING THE SHORTEST DISTANCE BETWEEN OBJECTS:select the two objects and click
the shortest distance button.

REDLINES:
Redlines are a group of four functions that starts with creating viewpoint.
Used for commenting and approving the comments during the construction stage.
Else create the viewpoint and add text tags clouds or whatever necessary in the redline tab

rotated by clicking on the plane. Can be reset by reset transform.

Scaling object:
Select object >item tools>scale>
A gizmo appears> clicking on arrow scales gizmo along that axis on both directions
Clicking on a plane scales the object along both axis in two directions.

Adding links and urls:

Select the object>right click >links>addlinks > name the item> provide link to file or url>
To open selec the object>links > name of the link

The difference between nwd and nwf
Nwd:a master model is present
Nwf: all models are independent.

Finding an item:
Onn home panel: click find item tab> select the family (architecture, electrical
mechanical), category, property, condition, value etc.

The settings for clash detective can be found in the options clash detective section.

Selecting objects to clash and adding clearances:

After adding the new clash test and naming it add the models to be checked for
clashes.
Check surfaces, lines, points, self intersect etc.
Check rules, use current object enables to check only the selected object,
Settings 4 types
Hard clash: A clash in which the geometry of selection A intersects that of selection B by a
distance of more than the set tolerance.
Clearance clash: A clash in which the geometry of selection A may or may not intersect that
of selection B, but comes within a distance of less than the set tolerance.
Duplicate clash: A clash in which the geometry of selection A is the same as that of
selection B, located within a distance of between zero and the set tolerance. A tolerance of
zero would therefore only detect duplicate geometry in exactly the same location.
Run the test after entering the tolerance.
Analyzing the result
Give different colors for the different models selected, in display settings. So we can
distinguish between them.
Resolving and reducing clashes:
After running test. Solve the clashes or the clashes which are safe can be marked approved in
the status. Resolved clashes can be compacted to remove them from the results.
In order to assign a clash to someone click on clash and click assign and mention the
comments in the coming window.
Grouping and assigning:
Clashes can be selected and grouped inorder to reduce the clashes. Keep in mind that only
the similar clashes are to be grouped together. The grouped clashes can be assigned as a
single clash.
Creating clash report:
Two types of reports can be published:
1. Viewpoint
2. Html(webpage).
In the reports tab check for contents, statuses, type to be included in report. Check
