How to check for Rooting (1/3)
★ Rooted handsets are treated as Out of Warranty.
Rooting can be checked in two different ways:
A) Through Settings
B) Through Download Mode

NEW IF CABLE (11 Pin)
For Galaxy S3(GT-I9300), new IF cable should be
used for IMEI writing and Calibration.

(USB cable and charging cable are same)

You can use the old 7 Pin cable for IMEI writing,
however you must insert the battery into the
handset for supplying power.

and Calibration (Please refer SVC Bulletin (12-37) New IF Cable Guide for details.)

2) Select MODE as ‘Service’, Model folder as ‘GT-I9300’, check IMEI option and click System Setting button.

3) Check ‘IMEI Write’ and ‘IMEI Check’ option, & click ‘IMEI SVC & Repair Option’ to check ‘SVC’ option.

4) Click ‘Hardware Config’ option.

5) Click ‘Port Setting’ in the phone option, & select correct port for IMEI writing.

6) Click Save and OK to continue.

7. Enter IMEI number and click ‘Apply’ button.
8. Click ‘Model Info’ button and input ‘SKU_CODE’ and ‘BUYER’, then click Save.
※ SKU_CODE can be found in HHP Svc > ESN/IMEI Review
9. Click ‘Start’ button and Input ‘User ID’ and ‘Password’.
10. Click ‘Login’ button and connect the phone to Anyway JIG.

11. Once the IMEI write process is complete, disconnect the handset and switch off the
equipment

Boot Recovery (1/14)
Brief JTAG Process for GT-I9300:

1. First copy the JTAG (bootloader) file to an external micro SD card using a working GT-I9300
2. Insert the micro SD card to the Faulty PBA & copy the bootloader file to the
3. After downloading bootloader file to the defective PBA, rebuild the handset & software update the handset
with full s/w files (Pit, PDA, CSC, Modem)

Pre Requisites:

1. One GT-I9300 in good working condition


2. Micro SD Card (minimum capacity 2GB)
3. Odin3 v3.07.exe & Odin3.ini file (available from GSPN HHP Svc > Find Content > Download PGM >
GT-I9300
4. GT-I9300_Boot_Recovery.tar (available from GSPN HHP Svc > Find Content > JTAG Program >
GT-I9300

Detail JTAG Process

1. Insert External micro SD Card to a working GT-I9300 in order to copy “GT-I9300_Boot_Recovery.tar”


2. Run the Odin3 v3.07.exe program

3. Click “Bootloader” button and load “GT-I9300_Boot_Recovery.tar”

4. Enter into download mode with the working phone (with micro SD card inserted)
- To enter download mode: press
- a. Volume Down + Home Key + Power.

5. Connect the working phone (GT-I9300) to the PC using USB data cable.

6. Once connection is established and you can see the COM Port selected as above, click the ‘Start’
button to copy the “GT-I9300_Boot_Loader.tar” to the phone

7. Disconnect the working phone from the PC


8. Close the Odin3 v3.07.exe and run the Odin3 v3.07.exe program again.
9. Click “Bootloader” button and load “GT-I9300_Boot_Recovery.tar”
10. Check the “T Flash” Option in the Odin. This will copy the “GT-I9300_Boot_Recovery.tar” file to the
micro SD Card

11. Enter the working phone into download mode and connect to the PC again.
12. Ensure you have a micro SD card inserted into the phone. (2GB minimum requirement)
13. Click Start button to copy the “GT-I9300_Boot_Recovery.tar” file to the micro SD Card.

14. After downloading is complete, disconnect the working phone from the PC & remove micro SD Card
- At this stage, our micro SD card is ready & will be used to recover Bootloader of the faulty PBA
15. Now disassemble the faulty phone. Connect a working OCTA to your faulty PBA.

16. Now insert the micro SD card (which has BOOTLOADER_SDCARD.tar file) which we prepared
previously & insert into the faulty PBA.

17. Short Circuit R313 using tweezers for about 5 seconds after switching on the phone. You must short
circuit R313 before switching on the device (please follow this step and the next in conjunction with
the video supplied)

18. Using the Anyway S102 Jig and the test cable (Part No. GH81-10631A), power up the main PBA

19. After about 7 ~ 8 seconds, the Bootloader file is downloaded from external micro SD card (which you
inserted) into the eMMC of the phone.

20. At this stage you will see this message on the phone display: “SDCARD DOWNLOAD COMPLETED”.
Disconnect the power supply from the main PBA after about 20 seconds.

21. Now you can continue to download All software binary files on to the device (Pit, PDA, CSC, Modem)

Boot Recovery: QnA (13/14)

QnA:
Q. After flashing the GT-I9300_Boot_Recovery.tar file on the micro SD card, when I insert this micro SD
Card in a good working GT-I9300, I get the below shown message/error

A. This is normal. You may not be able to see the contents of the micro SD card when accessing from
within the handset.

Q. When I insert the prepared micro SD card into laptop/PC, it asks me to format the drive.
A. Please do not format the drive. It is normal operation once you have prepared your micro SD Card

Boot Recovery: QnA (14/14)

QnA:
Q. When checking the properties of the micro SD card in My Computer, it shows 0 bytes but fully occupi
ed drive. Is this normal?

A. Yes this is normal operation.

Q. NAND_CMD stays High and the boot up fails. Why is this?


A. If NAND_CMD line stays High, the boot up will fail, check the contents of the micro SD card which you
prepared & reload the GT-I9300_Boot_Recovery.tar file.

Q. What does eMMC stand for?


A. Embedded Multi Media Card

Interface (IF) Connector Cleaning Guide (1/2)

1. Which type of faults may be cured by cleaning the IF Connector?


- Not charging
- USB port not recognised.

These problems may occur due to dust inside the connector or around the interface
connector.

3. How to clean the IF connector


① Wet the antistatic brush with the IPA. ② Clean the pins of the IF connector.

③ Gently clean the inside of the IF connector ④ Blow the IPA excess away with the air gun
using the antistatic brush. from the pin-side of the IF connector.

Warning – Read and understand the MSDS for the IPA product that you are using before use.
Wait until the connector is dry before applying power.
