II. Company Description

1. Company mission statement

World-Class Education for the WorldTM

2. Company philosophy and vision

a. ISCed will be the first global, completely FREE Virtual School, blending emerging Open Source
technologies with delivery and curricula.
b. At first a Lean Startup spanning grades 9-12, ISCed will Bootstrap future growth to a PreK-12 scope
with content delivered in all world languages. However, ideally we will develop PreK-12 curricula across
all traditional subject areas.

3. Company goals
a. The first short term goal is to secure seed funding for the staff and leadership members to develop the
initial curricula, starting in English, and develop the LMS and Social Media platforms, and marketing.
b. The second short term goal is to gain accreditation from multiple U.S. states, agencies, and
countries/states around the world. An ISCed diploma is only worth its official recognition by tertiary
institutions and workplaces.
c. The third short term goal is to acquire and serve 100,000 students in the first year of operation after
launch.
d. The long term goals include acquiring exponentially more students, therefore viability to our digital
advertisers, resulting in increased operating revenue to scale up the services we provide, methods of
delivery, and expanding staff requirements.
e. The ultimate goal is to become the default distance learning platform for global students and
stakeholders as the need for such solutions continues to increase. We envision partnerships with tech
companies such as Google, Microsoft, Apple, Amazon, etc. resulting in acquisition of ISCed and/or IPO
as an exit strategy in five years or less.

4. Target market
Briefly, our target customers are global students/stakeholders. At first, with a Lean Startup approach, our targets
are limited to English-speaking 9-12 grade students. But with growth, ISCed will target all ages, languages and
locations, regardless of available technology and infrastructure.

5. Industry
An article, Virtual Reality Market to Reach USD 57.55 Billion by 2027 (link) by Fortune Business Insights,
projects growth for our industry to continue to grow at a remarkable rate:

“COVID-19 has considerably elevated the demand for Virtual Reality Technology. The associated firms,
clinics, and other companies have adopted the technology for virtual meetings, conferences, gatherings,
exhibitions and more purposes and are fuelling the demand for captivating results.”

In a Business Wire report, GCC Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) Market - Growth, Trends, COVID-19
Impact, and Forecasts (2021 - 2026) (link), a CAGR of 17.23% over the forecast period from 2021 - 2026 is
expected:

5
“The GCC Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) Market is expected to register a CAGR of 17.23%
over the forecast period from 2021 - 2026. The advancements in information and communication
technologies force educators and learners to move past the constraints of time, space, and environment.
While a typical classroom education is well-known, learning systems outside the classroom, primarily
those enhanced through technology, are still being discussed. Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs)
are the final stage in distance education, as these offer open educational resources to the students all
around the world. MOOCs are made to be scalable to large online masses, free participation, and
without formal requirements to provide individuals... the opportunity to learn through hundreds of
public and private universities or organizations…”

6. Competitors
No comparable competition exists as none is accredited nor aligned to international standards.
Students instead earn certificates, badges, or credentials, which are not universally recognized.
However, similar solutions include:
a. Coursera Inc.
b. edX Inc.
c. Udacity Inc.
d. Udemy Inc.
e. FutureLearn Ltd
f. openSAP (SAP SE)
g. Iversity Inc. (Springer Nature)

7. Legal structure
a. ISCed will organize as a PBC (public benefit corporation) and obtain a “B Corp” certification.
Its shareholder structure follows:
i. Margarete da Silva Melo Janes: 30%
ii. Jerald Janes: 30%
iii. Leadership/Staff: 25%
iv. Investor(s): 10%
v. Mentor/Partner: 5%

III. Services

1. Services:
a. ISCed will be the first school to align curricula to the International Standard Classification of
Education (ISCED), all aligned to Vocational Tracks. All content and technology will be Open
Source/free. Content will be delivered in all languages and reach all global citizens, regardless of
location.
b. Coursework can be accessed and completed in a web browser, mobile app (iOS and Android), or via
an offline Intranet configuration where connectivity is problematic. As Augmented Reality and other
related tech advances become adopted, ISCed will keep in step.

2. The problem ISCed solves:

Other competitors exist but none are accredited. The solutions provided by school districts, many of which

6
were developed and implemented in haste due to the Pandemic, frequently result in overall failure (link).
ISCed curricula will be more engaging as all lessons will be Project Based (link), making content both relevant
and hands-on to all learners. Most importantly, ISCed will be the response to the United Nations Sustainable
Development Goal 4 - Education: “Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong
learning opportunities for all” (link).

3. Proprietary features that give ISCed a competitive advantage:

We envision being able to patent ISCed for multiple unique features:
a. ISCed will be the first digital ad-based revenue model for a MOOC (link).
b. ISCed curricula will be the first aligned to International Standards developed by the UN and
UNESCO, ISCED (link).
c. ISCed will facilitate collaboration between stakeholders: Instructors, Students, Parents and
Community.
d. ISCed will integrate Common Core Character components (link), universally recognized values as
both means and ends of each project.
e. ISCed will offer Tiered Diplomas, each accredited:
i. Basic (Accredited Diploma – Credit Recovery Option)
ii. Honors (Major, optional Minor, Minimum ACT/SAT, etc. score as exit exam)
iii. Vocational (Career Tracks/Clusters/Pathways) leading to Industry Certifications as exit
exam)

4. How ISCed will price services:

a. ISCed services and content will be completely free to all users. Operating costs will be funded by
digital ad revenue.
b. Our platform will not track users, collecting traditional demographic or other data (link) (This is not
a barrier to advertising as like broadcast TV and radio, the sheer number of users ensures viable
ROI).
i. In fact, ISCed will already be compliant to the trend of Data Privacy Laws around the world
(link).

IV. Marketing Plan

1. Market research

● The total size of our industry (e-learning):

o “...the global e-learning market was estimated at USD 144 Billion in 2019 and is expected to reach USD
374.3 Billion by 2026. The global e-learning market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth
rate (CAGR) of USD 14.6% from 2019 to 2026.” (link)
● Trends in the industry:
o Due to COVID-19 e-learning continues exponential growth but its promise for the developing world is
one of ISCed’s tenets (link).
● The total size of our target market, and what share is realistic to obtain:
o The global e-learning market size was 171 Billion in 2019 and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 10.85%
during 2019 to 2025 (link).

7
o Global E-learning Market Size & Trends Will Reach USD 374.3 Billion by 2026 (link).
o With our goal of partnering with the UN, UNESCO and CIVICUS, outside of our internal marketing
efforts, it is realistic that ISCed will share 10% or more of this market.
▪ The projected profit margin target for the first year will be 10% but with growth, by year five the
margin will be over 35% based on Facebook’s Profit Margin 2009-2021 (link).
● Facebook, like ISCed, is a content platform providing digital advertising.
▪ Referencing advertising revenue of Facebook from 2009 to 2021 (link), once membership is
scaled up to comparable numbers, not to mention the exponentially increased screen time of
users, the annual revenue from the LMS platform and its partner networks can approach USD
$25B, over $2B by year five.

2. Barriers to entry

● If fully developed, PreK-12, the startup costs would be USD $3.6M (staff salaries, developers, technology and
initial marketing).
● ISCed can employ a Lean Startup Methodology (link) to reduce the initial scope to 9-12 and the overall startup
cost to USD $1.2M or less, depending on what an investor and/or partner would bring to the development, such
as human resources, adjusted to staff location, which comprise the bulk of cost.

3. Threats and Opportunities

● Threats
o No comparable competition exists.
o The only threat is the status quo of traditional education.

● Opportunities
o With remote learning a norm due to COVID-19 and education reform scaling to a global scope (link),
NOW is the time for ISCed.

4. Positioning/Niche

ISCed’s niche and positioning, briefly, are illustrated by the demand from UN (link), UNESCO (link) and CIVICUS (link)
for a global solution to take their lead. ISCed will do so.

5. How ISCed will initially market its services

Advertising will include:

● Online (at launch)

o SEM (link) - Search Engine Marketing (Google Ads, Microsoft Ads) for stakeholders low in the sales
funnel, actively seeking what we provide (link)
o SMM (link) - Social Media Marketing (Facebook Ads, Twitter Ads, etc.) for stakeholders higher in the
sales funnel
▪ Content Marketing (link) to create brand awareness and drive traffic to the website
● Affiliate/Influencer Marketing
8
o We will develop and implement a plan to develop our relationship with the UN, UNESCO, CIVICUS and
other potential partners to elevate our message/content to their existing audiences
● Guerrilla Marketing (link)
o As legal opportunities present themselves, we will leverage unorthodox channels and methods to amplify
our message

Images
Our brown-themed primary and secondary logos represent those we serve and the future, to which we are aligned.
These and the brand itself can change as the platforms are developed, but the goal of educational equity for students of
color and other disenfranchised minorities will not.

Primary Logo:

Secondary Logo - ISCed Globe:

6. Promotional budget

● At launch: USD $50,000 between SEM and SMM.

● On an ongoing basis: We will bootstrap ongoing paid marketing campaigns.

7. Location or proposed location

ISCed can be decentralized and wholly remote from development through launch and operation. With the goal of
translating all content into all world languages, with expansion we will add multilingual members to our team from all
time zones, so we will leverage Open Source Cloud solutions (link) for project management and communications.

9
V. Operational Plan

1. Production
The web platform, mobile application, and modules will require development first so staff can populate them with the
curricula they develop. Since ISCed will only use Public Domain content such as images and multimedia including audio
and video, no content will be externally linked to, requiring a relatively large amount of server space. Staff and leadership
will manage the project and communicate with Open Source, Cloud-based solutions. Since ISCed will be fully remote,
staff will use personal equipment - desktop computers, laptops, etc. - and their own Internet provider, but Open Source
software solutions will be recommended as the goal remains to use nothing proprietary during any phase of
development and operation.

2. Quality control
We will maintain consistency and quality control via PLCs, Professional Learning Communities (link), to collaborate to
those ends. Leadership will regularly “meet” with staff but the Curriculum Developers/Translators will start each work
day logging in to be current with colleagues’ efforts while reporting their own progress. Work will be peer reviewed
among the staff and leadership to assure quality and alignment to the standards and overall framework and goals. With
the goal of accreditation in as many agencies as possible, our curricula will exceed traditional expectations to maximize
the prestige each diploma will bring the students.

3. Location
ISCed will be decentralized and all team members will work remotely (like the students and stakeholders we serve).
Therefore any costs regarding rent, maintenance, utilities, insurance and any utilities will be each team member’s
responsibility, further mitigating the need for seed funding. Once ISCed is launched and in operation, the work
environment will remain the same, easing our acquisition of future staff. Leadership and the Startup mentor/partner will
manage the virtual “Home Office.”

4. Legal environment

○ We have legal representation by a Chicago, Illinois law firm.

○ The licenses and/or permits that are needed are the various accreditations. Acquisition will be the responsibility
of multiple members of leadership as requirements vary state to state, nation to nation.
i. If need be, we will apply to become a Charter School (link) in order to obtain accreditation but
with our goal of no public funding, this approach would be a last resort.
○ Any required trademarks, copyrights or patents are in process to be obtained once development is funded.

5. Personnel
We tiered three development scopes, determined by seed funding:

With a 9-12 STEM scope, repurposing/adapting existing curricula, we anticipate the need for the following staff (outside
of leadership):

○ Our plan to find qualified staff will be part of the initial marketing campaign via global job/career boards
and platforms.
○ Leadership will train staff and with expansion, the initial staff will train new staff, but all staff will have
previous work experiences already aligned to the ISCed model.

6. Inventory
ISCed does not require inventory, outside of equipment, Cloud-based technologies, etc. required of staff/leadership.

7. Suppliers
Our key suppliers have yet to be determined with our mentor/partner, but will include Open Source alternatives to
some or all of the following providers:

● Amazon Web Services (AWS) - Platform hosting for website and apps
● Google Analytics - User data will not be collected, but we will need minimal traffic data to monitor and report
usage and growth internally and to advertisers
● Google Workspace (formerly G Suite) - Staff and students’ productivity and collaboration tools
● LMS (link) options (noted are Open Source)
o GoSkills
o Moodle
o Sakai
o TalentLMS
o Thinkific
● Additionally we will require a Social Media module to anonymously connect users for Small Group and Large
Group activities and assignments, but with the customization of the LMS, this too will be developed and
integrated. We continue to network with existing platforms, for example, Meta, which would provide students
the ability to virtually, safely, and privately, collaborate with other students on Project Based Learning modules.
