DRUGS AND ALCOHOL POLICY

Policy Statement:
CHEC is committed to ensuring the health, safety and welfare of its employees and all those affected
by its activities. CHEC will therefore take all the reasonable steps to reduce, if not eliminate, the risk of
injuries or incidents occurring due to individuals suffering from the effects of alcohol and drug abuse.

Policy Objectives:
CHEC and its partners will raise awareness of the risks of alcohol and other drug related
problems and also promote the health and wellbeing of employees. This policy however aims to
safeguard all CHEC’s sites and work activities from the inherent risks associated with alcohol
and substance abuse. CHEC and its sub-contractors will take steps to ensure that employees
are not acting under the influence of alcohol or drugs since it is likely to put their own health and
safety or that of others at the workplace at risk. Further, this policy will ensure that alcohol and/or
drugs misuse does not have a negative effect on absenteeism and morale of employees on the
project.

Responsibilities:
CHEC prohibits the abuse of drugs and alcohol by its employees and sub-contractors on the project.
Managers and Supervisors shall:
Educate and create awareness on the adverse effects of drug and alcohol abuse;
Conduct random, post-accident and “for cause” drug and alcohol testing for all employees;
Observe employee performance and behavior during work;
Investigate reports of dangerous practices that could result from the effects of drug and alcohol
use;

Our Limits:
Illegal drugs and other drugs of abuse are completely banned.
We have zero tolerance for alcohol on the project.

Action after a Positive Test:


A positive drug or alcohol test will result in disciplinary action and including dismissal.

CHEC will strictly comply with all applicable Nigerian health and safety laws, and work practices and
procedures designed to protect and promote workplace health and safety.

No employee shall:
Come to the project site having just consumed alcohol or while under the influence of drugs.
Come to the project site in an unfit state due to the use of alcohol or drugs.
While at workplace:
 Be in possession of alcohol or drugs.
 Consume alcohol or drugs.
 Attempt to sell or give drugs or alcohol to any other employee or other persons.
 Use drugs whilst at work that cause the impairment faculties, whether under medical
prescription or not.
Employees are advised to inform CHEC’s management if they have an alcohol or drug related problem.
Subsequent discovery prompted by either random or “for cause” testing will result in disciplinary
actions.

Scope:
This drug and alcohol policy applies to all CHEC’s employees and sub-contractors, and all
persons on the company’s premises and project sites, in company vehicles and other premises
whilst on company business.

Review and Communication:


This Policy will be reviewed annually to ensure it meets the need of the company, and will be made
available to all persons under the control of the company.
