ASSESSMENT 1- Project

a. What are the workplace actions that must be taken for legal compliance?
 Stay on track with changing laws and regulations.
 Ensure employees follow procedures.
 Schedule regular internal audits.

b. What are the responsibilities that an employer has to provide a safe


workplace?
:- Under the law employers are responsible for health and safety
management. It is an employer's duty to protect the health, safety and
welfare of their employees and other people who might be affected by their
business. Employers must do whatever is reasonably practicable to achieve
this. Take reasonable care for their own health and safety as well as of
others.

c. What are the requirements for consultation, and what are acceptable
consultation mechanisms?
:- Consultation is required when identifying hazards, assessing risks and
deciding on measures to eliminate or minimize those risks. In deciding how to
eliminate or minimize risks. A safe workplace is more easily achieved when
everyone involved in the work communicates with each other to identify
hazards and risks, talks about any health and safety concerns and works
together to find solutions.

d. Briefly outline the requirements for the use of WHS representatives and
committees and discuss their various roles and responsibilities?
:- The primary purpose of the health and safety representative role is to
represent members of a work group in health and safety matters. Other
powers and functions are: Investigating complaints from work group
members. Representing members of your work group in work health and
safety issues.

e. Outline the requirements for hazard identification, risk assessment, risk


control, and discuss the acceptable mechanisms used?
:- Identify hazards and risk factors that have the potential to cause harm
under hazard identification. Analyze and evaluate the risk associated with
that hazard in risk analysis, and risk evaluation. Determine appropriate ways
to eliminate the hazard, or control the risk when the hazard cannot be
eliminated by using methods of risk control.

f. What are the requirements for record keeping, and what are the acceptable
record keeping mechanisms used in the industry?
:- Records are needed to monitor the progress of business. Records can show
whether business is improving, which items are selling, or what changes need
to make. Good records can increase the likelihood of business success.

 Identifying the transactions.


 Recording in the journal.
 Classifying the nature of the transaction.
 Posting to ledger.
 Balancing of accounts.
 Preparing a financial statement.
 Interpreting the financial statements.
 Communicating it to stakeholders.

g. What are the basic requirements for providing information and training?
:- Everyone involved in the work environment needs to know how to work
safely and without risks to health. Must provide with clear instructions and
information, and adequate training for employees. Control measures in place
to deal with those hazards and risks

h. What are the employee responsibilities in regard to ensuring safety and


participating in WHS practices and in WHS management practices?
:-Each employee is responsible for understanding and practicing appropriate
safety procedures.
 Follow procedures of working in health and safety.
 Use the tools available to maintain a safe environment.
 Educate yourself on hazards, safety practices, and rules.

i. What are the legal obligations and ramifications of failing to observe OHS or
WHS legislation and organizational policies and procedures?
:- Legal obligation describes duty or obligation and responsibility to carry out
what the law, codes, regulations or even protocol ask ,they are imposed to
ensure the health and safety that would prevent and not put at risk by work
activities of people in the workplace. Organization being fined for non-
compliance and also may have to face imprisonment under law.

2. Conduct some research on a specific organization in the tourism,


travel, hospitality or events business industry to answers the following
questions. This may be an organization at which you work, have previously
worked, or would like to work in:

a. Discuss the full content of WHS policies and procedures, especially in


relation to consultation, hazard identification, risk assessment and
reporting documents?
:- WHS procedures outline the requirements for complying with both external
and internal compliance requirements. Company policies are often published
and distributed to workers; ensuring that everyone understands his or her
role in following the accepted work procedures.
Consultation is a two-way process between you and your workers where you:
talk to each other about health and safety matters. listen to their concerns
and raise your concerns. seek and share views and information and consider
what your workers say before you make decisions.
Identify hazards and risk factors that have the potential to cause harm under
hazard identification.
Analyze and evaluate the risk associated with that hazard. Determine
appropriate ways to eliminate the hazard, or control the risk when the hazard
cannot be eliminated risk assessment.

b. What are the methods used in the workplace for WHS consultation, hazard
identification and risk assessment?
:- Examples of WHS Consultation Mechanisms include:
Establishing Health and Safety Committees. Electing Health and Safety
Representatives (HSRs) Conducting regular meetings with Staff.
Ways to Identify Hazards in the Workplace

 Conduct regular worksite inspections.


 Interview workers and managers.
 Create a hazard map

To do a risk assessment:

 Identify the hazards.


 Decide who might be harmed and how.
 Evaluate the risks and decide on control measures.
 Record your findings and implement them.

c. What options have been provided for training in relation to:


i. Coaching or mentoring employees in safe work practices?
 :- Greet employees warmly and respectfully.
 Begin with a human connection.
 Maintain a relaxed posture.
 Practice humility and humor.

ii. Formal training available in safe work practices?


:-Workplace safety training is a process that aims to provide your
workforce with knowledge and skills to perform their work in a
way that is safe for them and their co-workers. In addition, an
effective workplace safety plan includes instructions and
guidelines to identify hazards, report them, and deal with
incidents.
iii. What are the procedures in place for risk control?
:- The WHS risk management process involves following steps:
 Identify hazards that could cause harm.
 Assess how serious the harm can be and the likelihood of it
happening.
 Implement the most effective controls to eliminate or
minimize the risk of harm.
 Monitor and review risk controls.

iv. What in involved in induction in regard to WHS policy and


procedure?
 Introduction to the Manager, Supervisor or Team Leader.
 Performance standards and worker expectations.
 Work Times including work breaks.
 Introduction to team members.
 Team roles and responsibilities.
 Introduction to other workers.

v. Is there a WHS representative or a committee? Please discuss?


:- Health and safety representatives play a key role in the consultation
process outlined in the work health and safety. Health and safety
representatives are elected by workers to represent the interests of
members of that work group in terms of work health and safety
matters. The main functions of the health and safety committee are to
facilitate co-operation in developing and carrying out measures to
improve the safety of workers. help develop health and safety
standards, rules and procedures.

vi. How does the workplace use and provide information, fact
sheets and signage to ensure safe work practices?
:- Information drives communication in the workplace, and
communication in turn allows all the members of the organization, from
entry-level people to the CEO, to work in harmony toward accomplishing
the company's goals and to maximize productivity. Workplace
communication is the process of exchanging information and ideas, both
verbally and non-verbally between one person or group and another
person or group within an organization. It includes e-mails,
videoconferencing, text messages, notes, calls etc.

vii. Identify the location of the first aid kit and emergency
evacuation plan?
:- First aid kits should be kept in a prominent, accessible location
and able to be retrieved promptly. Access should also be ensured
in security-controlled workplaces. First aid kits should be located
close to areas where there is a higher risk of injury or illness.

viii. Briefly discuss workplace policies in relation to the overall


approach of the organization to WHS?
:- A workplace policy is a statement which outlines an
organization's practices and procedures concerning part of its
business, which can cover everything from day-to-day operational
matters to compliance with employment legislation.

ix. Identify and briefly discuss at least four of the various


procedures in place for WHS?
 Prepare a health and safety policy.
 Risk assessment.
 Consult your workers.
 Provide information and training.
 Have the right workplace facilities.
 First aid in work.

x. Identify and discuss any specific risk control measures that are
relevant to the chosen workplace?
:- Risk control measures are actions that are taken in response to a
risk factor that has the potential to cause accident or harm in the
workplace. The control measures can either be designed to reduce
the risks or eliminate them completely, with the latter obviously
being preferred.

xi. Are there any specific regulations and codes of practice that
relate to the organization and industry?
:- Regulations help to protect employees and provide fundamental
information on occupational health and safety and on existing hazards and
how to prevent them. Company Regulations list rules on health protection
and accident prevention, on order on company premises and the conduct of
employees.

a. What information needs to be recorded and reported in regard to


consultation?
:- This involves in the work communicates with each other to identify
hazards and risks, talks about any health and safety concerns and works
together to find solutions.

b. Outline the records and reports essential for hazard identification, risk
assessment and risk control in the workplace?
 :- The physical work environment.
 Equipment, materials and substances used.
 Work tasks and how they are performed.
 Work design and management.

c. Discuss incident, accident and near miss reports, and what related
information and notifications will need to be made to WHS regulatory
authorities?
:- A near miss is a leading indicator to an accident that, if scrutinized and used
correctly, can prevent injuries and damages. Collecting near-miss reports
helps create a culture that seeks to identify and control hazards, which will
reduce risks and the potential for harm.

d. What information must be documented in regard to training actions plans


and training undertaken?
:-This should included are key tasks to be completed, such as when to set up
training facilities and schedule participants, other activities essential to
training and dates on which those tasks and activities must be finished.

e. Are there other reports required for organizational and legal WHS
requirements?
 Annual Report.
 Sales and Revenue Report.
 Inventory Report.
 Marketing Report.
