Why did the Canadian Confederation form in 1867?

The main force behind the Confederation was George Brown’s convention/party,

otherwise known as the reform partyReform Party. Their platform was: rRepresentation by

population and the call for separate governments, which paved the way of the confederation with

thefor federation of the Province of Canada. Without the Reform party Party and George Brown,

the idea for the Confederation would have come much later or not at all, : the compromise

between the conservative party to combine British Colombia and the federation Federation of the

Province of Canada was proposed in 1864, which resolved resolving the dilemasdilemmas that

gridlocked both political parties in Canada. This idea for a Confederation to unify all of British

North America ceased stopped the debate on representation by population between conservative-

liberals and the reformers. With a new Confederation, Canada West would be able to have the

representation and still maintain a strong federal system, and while at the same time create

creating individual provinces. This? became cemented during what was called the great coalition

whenre three of the four political parties were represented in June 1864 and created one of the

most powerful cabinets seen in Canada at the time. George Brown’s compromise and role in the

reform party thus brought the Confederation movement into existence.

During the time the When the Reform party Party had gained support and the debates

with the Conservative-liberals began, the Civil War had started in America. Immediately

tensions occurred? with British North Americans, [run on] the U.S. was hostile because of

Britain’s support of the South and supply of the C.S.S Alabama. Canada was pressured to unify

and grow in power to ward off the eager Americans, [run on and unclear subject] shown in their

offer to gain Canada in order to pay damages caused by Britain during the Civil War. Not only

did Canada see America as hostile, but as an example to gain a strong central power, weak
federations would not be sustainable [rephrase for clarity]. This was offered by a Confederation,

[que?] and shown in the federation of the Province of Canada with its two local governments and

an overall national government. The U.S. did not influence the movement for a confederation

with the civil warCivil War alone but integrated the idea of Manifest Destiny.. During 1854 the

Reform party Party had an empire in mind as they looked West in expansion of the territories,

and more fuel for the Confederation movement to unify the nation of Canada [huh?].
