Purpose
The purpose of this document is to provide a procedure for using Plug and Ring Gauges for
the inspection of NPT threads. This will be achieved by using purchased gauges to inspect
both male & female threads.

Reason
To help ensure non-inspection personnel can inspect NPT connections and either pass or
fail the components.
1. Ring Gauge TWO Step MAX & MIN

L-9711020269 ; 1/2" NPT Ring Gauge Go / No-Go

L-9711020271 ; 1/4" NPT Ring Gauge Go / No-Go

The pin thread shown above is below the flush on the max step and above the flush on the
min step. Acceptable limits for an NPT external male thread must lie between the Max or
Min.
