41.

Weekends and public holidays Duties and Responsibilities


41.1. Policy statement
Pharmacy department operates 24 hours seven days a week. Pharmacy staff shall be
compelled to working either 12- or 24-hours schedule depends on the circumstances
41.2. Procedures
1. Except for those who were on duty previous night, pharmacy
staff shall report to their respective working areas during the
weekends and public holidays at 08:00 but not later than
09:00
2. Notwithstanding permissions, pharmacy staff shall fulfill
duties and responsibilities during weekend and public
holidays.
3. Health attendants shall mop using soapy water all the
purported areas and shall not limit the cleanliness to shelve
and windows.
4. Pharmacy personnel shall supervise health attendants and
shall report to the second on call about intensity of the
cleanliness.
5. The second on call shall report to the HOD in writing about
the duties and responsibilities conducted during the
weekend/ Public holiday include pharmacy staff and interns
attendances.
6. Pharmacy staff shall have to sign in person in the
attendance register in which there shall be two separate
attendance lists, one for interns only.
7. Outpatient, theater, dialysis pharmacy personnel shall be
restricted to leave their working areas until all purported
patients are served as shall be reported by the nurse
supervising the respective clinic or theater
8. Inpatient pharmacy personnel shall be restricted to leave
their working areas until all admitted patients are served as
shall be reported by the nurse supervising the respective
ward.
9. After completion of the services, the pharmacy staff serving
inpatients shall be compelled to visit all wards in the
respective block before leaving the work place to ascertain in
there are left over files or unattended patients.
10. The second on call in any day shall be restricted to leaving
the hospital premises until he/she receives evening reports
and has made evening ward rounds which is expected to be
not earlier than 17:00
11. Pharmacy personnel working under shift schedules shall not
leave their working places until the person taking over their
shift have arrived and handle over process is completed.
The handle over process shall be in writing noting the
important aspects happened and what need to be addressed
in the forthcoming shift.

41.3 Guidelines
1. Pharmacy staff on duty during the weekends and
public holidays shall be compelled to completion of
their ascribed tasks and handle over is completed
2. Unless proved otherwise pharmacy staff who refuses
to perform or underperform the assigned tasks as
expected, shall be considered as insubordinations.
