1. Notes on material and cutting gas
The intrinsic properties of the material and the quality of the cutting
gas are a key factor affecting laser cutting results.
Stainless steel:
The cutting and piercing parameters given in the data collection were
determined using 1.4301 (X5CrNi 1810) grade steel.
Aluminium alloys:
The cutting and piercing parameters given in the data collection were
determined using AlMg3 and AlMgSi1 qualities.

Note:
The surface of this mild steel is smooth and even, with lettering,
while the underside is somewhat rougher. It is very important to
load the sheet correctly (with the smooth, marked side facing up)
as the cut quality may otherwise suffer.
The following mild steels are also suited for laser cutting but no
broad-based test values are available yet for them:
For laser cutting in the thick plate range of 12 -20 mm, a virtually
scale-free, rolled mild steel RQSt37.2 (material designation: EN 10025
FE 360 B FN KQ) with low silicon and manganese content is
recommended. This material enables machining of narrow contours,
yields a visually finer cut, a cut edge with less roughness coupled with
greater process reliability and reduced setup work.
Cutting copper Cutting of copper should not be attempted until you have attended the
"Cutting Technology" training course.
Copper may be cut only with oxygen (O2); never use nitrogen (N2).
Due to the risk of reflection in the event of a cutting flaw (damage to
the optics), caution must be exercised when cutting copper. For this
reason, make very sure that "MD65 Upper power limit monitoring" is
correctly set in the laser machine data:

Thick plate machining on The TLF 3000t or TLF 3800t is mandatory for processing mild steel
the TC L6030 thicker than 15 mm. Only a laser output of at least 3 kW can
guarantee safe and reliable processing throughout the entire working
range. Processing is permitted in the work area between X2000 and
X6000.
The following parameters must be defined for each cycle (Fig. 5783E)
and input directly at the laser control.

Startup power (P1), continuous power (P2, P3), startup time (t12) and
piercing time (ts) must be adjusted to the thickness and type of
material.
Power values P4 - P6 are set to 0 as standard, times t34 through t56
are set to 10.

3 Piercing at full power 3
3 (P1 = 100 %, or 79% on the TLF 3800t) 3

3 and with oil spray device 3
3 Gas: Oxygen 3
@-------------------------------------------Y
Advantages:
❑ Automated material flow as it is not necessary to apply oil to the
entire sheet.
❑ Less wear on the suction filter as oil burns only in the area of the
piercing hole.
Z-------------------------------------------?
Piercing at reduced power
3 Piercing at reduced power (P1 < 100 %), low gating frequency and 3
3 low gas pressure 3
3 Gas: Oxygen or Nitrogen 3
@-------------------------------------------Y
Advantages:
❑ Careful, precision piercing with power increase in conformity with
the active ramp cycle
❑ Minimal slag formation
❑ This is the only way to make a start hole identical in size to the
width of the kerf. In all other piercing modes, craters of varying
widths will result at the start hole.
❑ In oxide-free cutting of aluminium alloys with lasers of a power
rating under 3 kW, O2 must be used if reliable piercing is to be
ensured.
Danger from reflection if N2 is used for piercing.
❑ For small contours in stainless steel, a start hole is produced with
minimal ejection of material. This prevents nozzle wear when
processing small contours and guarantees process reliability.

@-------------------------------------------Y
From the positioning standoff, the Z axis goes to piercing standoff,
where the beam is ignited. At the same time, with height regulation
active, cutting standoff is assumed, and the start hole generated.
Processing starts as soon as the cutting height is reached.
Advantages:
❑ Speeds up machining of thin sheets since time savings of about
50 % are achieved with this piercing method as compared to
conventional piercing.

If the foil coating does not adhere properly to the material, the strong
jet of gas generated during high pressure cutting may infiltrate
between the foil and the material, causing the foil to puff up.
In high pressure cutting, material up to 3 mm thick can be worked
without burring if the following conditions are met:
The foil can also be vaporized before piercing and cutting the material.
The foil is vaporized only around the start hole or, if the foil is not too
"strongly" adhesive, the entire contour is traced before cutting,
vaporizing a path about 3 mm wide.
The parameters are valid for all laser types, independent of material
thickness.

The control must execute two small circles for each point when point
marking mild steel and stainless steel.
In mild steel, the same circle of 0.6 diameter is executed twice.
In stainless steel, however, two concentric circles are needed, the first
with a diameter of 0.3 mm and the second with a diameter of 0.6 mm.

1 Corner: Round
(Corners are rounded)
2 Corner: Loop
(Produces sharp corners)
3 Corner: No rounding - no looping
(normal corners)
4 Corner: Round - Vaporize (foil) contour
(The sheet has a foil coating, the corners are rounded)
5 Corner: Round - SprintLas cutting/marking
(The corners are rounded/SprintLas processing for cutting and
marking)
6 Corner: Round - Table for large, medium and small contours,
ContourLas processing of small contours)
Example If rule number 50013 is selected, neither a loop is made at the corner
nor is the corner rounded.
Version index This indicates the machine software version as of which the rule can
be used. Rules without a version index can be used with all machine
software versions.
ToPs 400 ToPs 400 automatically determines the maximum feedrate for each
polygon. Although a contour may be large (in area), its processing
depends on the number of increments it contains: hence it may be cut
with parameters for large, medium or even small contours, as deemed
fit.
Technology table numbers Dedicated technology table numbers are assigned for pipe machining
(medium contour). These numbers are not identical to the numbers for
large, medium and small contours in flat machining.

In material thickness 6-12 mm medium contour, piercing normally takes place with full power. If the pierced crater is too
large (for example, if the surface is dry), power must be reduced for piercing (parameter: see Small contour).
Contouring with Approach Strategy II is valid as of ToPs Version 3.11 and machine software version

* In material thickness ≥2 mm, you must always choose between cutting and piercing "Gas purge".
When piercing with O2, star-shaped slag collects on the sheet surface and must subsequently be removed. Oxide forms
when starting to cut after piercing. This can be avoided to a large extent by also purging between piercing and cutting.

* In material thickness ≥2 mm, you must always choose between cutting and piercing "Gas purge". Reason: Gas change from
N2 to O2 in "Point marking" in material thickness ≥2 and in Piercing for small contours in material thickness ≥4.
When piercing with O2, star-shaped slag collects on the sheet surface and must subsequently be removed. Oxide forms
when starting to cut after piercing. This can be avoided to a large extent by also purging between piercing and cutting.

* The material surface must be free of scales and lightly oiled. R3 must be programmed as the corner radius. If small parts
are nested too closely on the sheet, the material may overheat, resulting in poor cut quality! On the TC L 3030 without
AutoLas, the cutting data specified for material thickness 20 mm are valid only for a reduced work area of 2000 mm x 1000
mm.

In material thickness 6-12 mm medium contour, piercing normally takes place with full power. If the pierced crater is too
large (for example, if the surface is dry), power must be reduced for piercing (parameter: see Small contour).

* On the TC L 3030 without AutoLas, the specified cutting data listed for material thickness 6 to 12 mm apply only to a
reduced working range of 2000 mm x 1000 mm. The acceleration rate must be reduced to 0.05 m/s2 for 8 mm, to 0.03 m/s2
for 10 mm and to 0.01 m/s2 for 12 mm sheets. Process reliability is attained by reducing the acceleration. Material 10 and
12 mm thick may be cut only with AutoLas. Burr can form in material thickness 8 to 12 mm.
