AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTIVITY AND LIVELIHOODS ANALYSIS OF FARMERS IN

NABUA AT THE TIME OF INFLATION

In the Philippines, the coconut oil business is quite important. In addition to being the top
agricultural export earner for the nation, it is virtually always consumed domestically. Small-
scale coconut growers are still among the poorest farmers in the nation. Copra, the commodity
produced by coconut farmers, is of the highest quality, and coconut oil manufacturers pay
premium amounts for it. This study of MAKA Padua (2015), examines the coconut oil chain in
Camarines Sur province, focusing on the ability of small farmers to benefit from premium prices.
Evidence from other countries suggests that the ability of small farmers to capture quality
premiums is often compromised by problems in the measurement and enforcement of
standards, asymmetries in power and information along the value chain, and the non-trivial cost
of collective action in lobbying and marketing activities. This research uses case studies to test
for the presence of similar problems in Camarines Sur, and to identify effective ways of
improving returns to small coconut farmers.
According to the article conducted by Andreisse (2018), shows that the integration of livelihoods
and value‐chain analyses has the advantage of fleshing out upstream challenges that are
relevant for agri/aquabusiness performance, socio‐spatial policies, and refinements of rural
development theories. It is unlikely that horizontal coordination/social capital as well as
associated upgrading efforts will be effective without a stronger emphasis on vertical
coordination and human‐capital formation.
According to Acosta, Eugenio, & Sales, (2019) this study explores the economic effects of
coconut product exports on the agricultural sector of the Philippines. Coconut products,
including copra, coconut oil, and desiccated coconut, have long been a significant export
commodity for the country. The study examines the relationship between coconut product
exports and various economic indicators such as employment, income generation, foreign
exchange earnings, and agricultural productivity.
Contribution of Coconut Product Exports to Employment:
This section investigates the impact of coconut product exports on employment in the
agricultural sector. It examines the direct and indirect employment generated through coconut
farming, processing, and related industries. Income Generation and Poverty Alleviation: Here,
the study analyzes the relationship between coconut product exports and income generation in
rural areas. It explores how coconut farming and processing activities contribute to poverty
alleviation and income distribution. Foreign Exchange Earnings and Balance of Trade: The
focus of this section is on the foreign exchange earnings derived from coconut product exports.
It examines the role of coconut exports in maintaining a favorable balance of trade and its
contribution to the country's overall foreign exchange reserves.
Agricultural Productivity and Sustainability:
This section evaluates the impact of coconut product exports on agricultural productivity. It
explores how the coconut industry's export orientation affects investment, technology adoption,
and overall agricultural sustainability. Challenges and Future Prospects: This section discusses
the challenges faced by the coconut industry, such as pest and disease management, low
productivity, and price volatility. It also highlights potential strategies and policy
recommendations for sustainable development and growth.
