A. ‘The exhaust system exhausts the waste gases from the engine through the exhaust pipe assembly. ‘The exhaust pipe extension routes the exhaust gases away from the airplane and reduces the de~ positing of waste resicue on the engine nacelles. ‘The flexible joint at forward end of exhaust pipe assembly allows relative motion between the shock mounted engine and the rigidly mounted foxhaust pipe assembly. ‘The diaphragm and seal isolate the engine cooling system from the oil ‘cooling system (refer to Chapters 71 and 79 respectively): 18-10-00 Page 1 Jan 3/83 MAINTENANCE MANUAL ‘uisream Conwnander Mode 88 (ne Eighty) ‘uitaream Commander Mode 854 (ne Thousand) MAINTENANCE PRACTICES-EXHAUST SYSTEM. sembly. (3) Remove nuts, washers, and bolts, that secure the exhaust pipe assembly to the engine exhaust diffuser. (6) Support exhaust pipe assembly and remove mut, washer, bolt, and spacer from channel, located aft inboard side of exhauat pipe assembly. (7) Turn exhaust pipe assembly slowly and remove from aft side of dlaphragm. Exhaust System Maintenance. A. The exhaust pipe should be checked every 100 hours, or whenever the forward fairing is removed, for cracks. Check for leakage of exhaust gases In the area of the seal. Installation of Exhaust Pipe Assembly, (Refer to Figure 78-1.) A. To install the exhaust pipe assembly, proceed as follows (1) Insert exhaust pipe assembly through diaphragm and position for attaching to engine exhaust diffuser. (2) Align holes in forward collar and exhaust pipe assembly with those in the engine exhaust diffuser, and install bolts, washers, and nats. ‘Washers and nuts are installed on forward side of front collar. Use wedge between cuter sicin assembly and exhaust pipe assembly to prevent turning or twisting of exhaust pipe assembly, during installation proce~ E dures. Tighten nuts to a torque value of 50 Inch-pounds. (3) Unfold seal and position over front collar, coat inside surface of seal that comes in con= tact with collar assembly with grease, #5 silicone manufactured by Dow Corning or equivalent. Secure seal by installing forward clamp. (4) Install spacer, bolt, washer, and nut in channel bracket, securing aft section of exhaust pipe assembly’ (3) Slide exhaust pipe extension assembly over exhaust pipe assembly and position for Securing to engine nacelle.
