BATANG- BATA KA PA
By: Apo hiking society

Batang-bata ka pa is a popular Filipino song in the 1980's up to now, and was

written and sang by a Musical Group called Apo Hiking Society. Apo Hiking Society

consist of 15 members but only three of them remains in the group; Jim Paredes, Boboy

Garovillo and Danny Javier. Batang-bata ka pa is a song which tells what a child must

and must not know about the world. What a child can and cannot do, and what a child

need and not need to know in an environment they're living. A stylistic analysis analysis

was made to showcase the meaning and purpose behinf the music and the songwriter

while making it. The style and how the words were use and examination of the creativity

of the writer in using a language to make the song. Analyzing this might enhance our

way of thinking of language and its uses.

The batang Bata ka pa by Apo hiking society this song depicts a lessons which is

meaningly that you shouldn't put an period on something that you’re not sure enough if

it is the right way or not with this as I have observed in phono-graphologically speaking I

have noticed that it uses variety of punctuations such as the apostrophe, dash, and

comma not just that but it consist varieties of figurative speech which makes it more

beautiful and sounds good those figurative speech are the alliteration and metaphor and
a little bit of personification in it in alliteration example of it is "Makinig ka na

lang, makinig ka na lang" then in metaphor we have "Ang buhay ay isang mumunting

paraiso lamang. In addition, the song also consists of onomatopoeia.

Repetition of words to create another meaning is known especially in Filipino

language. Such as araw-araw and buwan-buwan which also means the same thing with

only a word. The words might change the original form of the word but the meaning

remain the same. From the title itself, "Batang-bata ka pa" is the repetition of the word

"bata" which means a child or a kid. If we look for the meaning of the combined words, it

means a child or young, which is also synonymous with "bata". The words were

deformed and changed but the meaning itself remain still. But, not all words can be

combined and changed to create meaning especially in English language. Moreover,

the word "nilalang" was used in the song. "Nilalang" is a Filipino word which means

creatures. If we take this line "Alam ko na may karapatan ang bawat nilalang" there's a

sense of vagueness in the context. Vagueness on what creature could the song meant.

Since creature is a broad and wide word, it could mean an animal, a human, a fictional

or imaginary character. Also, in terms of lexical relations of the words, "bata" is

synonymous to the word "musmus" which means a child. Musmus is being referred and

describe to, instead of repeating the word "bata".

In anlysing the syntactic level in the song Batang- bata ka pa the meaning of it is

about the innocence and naivety of being child-like or being a kid. The words choice has

a strong connection to the message it wants to convey. The grammar in the sentence is

constructed properly and the lyrics are straight forward and a few grammatical features

are refreshingly simple resulting in it being understandable. We also noticed Adjunct

words, and words that are being omitted in the text by simply adding a quotation before

the word. Aside from that, the repetition of the word Batang-bata emphasizes that you

are still a child. Overall, it uses the common structure in Tagalog which is the Verb –

Subject – Object OR Verb – Object – Subject that makes the sentences to be clear, and

make sense.

In the song “Batang-Bata Ka Pa” it’s a tagalog song and we noticed that this

song has an excessive used of foregrounding in the text. Just like the phrase “Batang-

Bata Ka Pa” we can see that this is assonance. The other phrase is “intindihin sa

mundo” this line is metonymy. The other phrase is “Nagkakamali ka kung akala mo na”

this phrase is oxymoron. We also noticed that the whole song has a lot of repetition of

words just like the phrase “Makinig ka nalang, makinig ka nalang”, kahit bata pa man,

“kahit bata pa man” and the la, la, la, la, la, la in the last part of song. It also has an

idiom phrase, for example the “kulay ng buhay” it means that there’s a lot of colors in

our life and every color has an meaning and scene that came to us.
In conclusion, in this song it typically depects us as youngsters to think before

doing something which is you aren’t sure if it is okay right or not. But with phono-

graphological used the entire song was splendid the used of metaphor to create some

new image the alliteration which helps the song to have a sound. With this I have

concluded that you cannot create a perfect song without analyzing its phono-

graphological features. In analyzing lexico-semantics, analyzing the sentence and the

words are important. It is significant to analyze the proper meaning of the words in a

sentence to properly understand what the author wants to convey in their piece. On the

other hand, without studying the order and arrangement of words there would be no

concrete meaning in the text that would create confusion to the readers that’s why

choosing a word to use in writing is very essential to achieve satisfaction and avoid

misinterpretation about the meaning of the sentence. Overall, Batang Bata Ka Pa" is a

song written by the Apo Hiking Society. Many can relate to this song. It is about a parent

and their child. The parents are teaching them lessons in life in order to grow into a

mature adult. It also reminds us to follow in a right path and lead us to a better future.

The whole text of the song has a lot of repetition of word, it also has an idioms word and

etc.
