● This assignment is an Individual report.

● You must use font Times New Roman, size 12, set number of the pages and line spacing at 1.5
lines. Margins must be: left: 2.5 cm; right: 2 cm; top: 2 cm and bottom: 2 cm.

● You should use in-text references and a list of all cited sources at the end of the essay by applying
the Harvard referencing style.

● The recommended word limit is 1800-2000 words (+/-10%), excluding the tables, graphs,
diagrams, appendixes and references. You will not be penalized for exceeding the total word limit.

● The cover page of the report has to be the Assignment front sheet 1 (to be attached with this
assignment brief).

Assignment scenario
You are a Research Analyst of SSI Securities Corporation. Your corporation is planning to make
business reports of some Vietnamese companies/industries by applying several statistical methods.

Precisely, you are required to demonstrate your understanding by evaluating and analysing the business
data (financial information, stock market) or microeconomics or macroeconomic recent problems,
future trends/ intentions, etc. regarding your research topic. All the variables could be nominal or
ordinal, interval, or ratio, number or text. Besides, you have to make sure that your dataset characterised
by the rules: Composing of at least 6 variables, 1 categorical variable and 50 observations to do the
research.

1. Evaluate the nature and process of business and economic data/information from a range of different
published sources

how data can be turned into information and information into knowledge.
c. Describe in detail the way of collecting database and transformation process of data into
information and knowledge.

2. Evaluate data from a variety of sources using different methods of analysis

a. Interpreting data from a variety of sources using different methods of analysis: descriptive,
exploratory and confirmatory.
b. Demonstrating the pros and cons of each method about your above interpretation.
c. Critically evaluating the differences in application among descriptive, exploratory and
confirmatory analysis techniques of business and economic data in general.

3. For your dataset:

a. State one research question in which your dataset plays a role of a sample. Then identify the
population for this research question. What is the sampling strategy for your dataset?
b. Apply statistical tools to (i) display mean, mode, median, range and standard deviation of one
variable by a table; (ii) describe one categorical (qualitative) variable by a table/figure. Make
sure that you interpret the business meaning for each above table/figure.
c. Show the relationship between two variables by a scatter plot. Calculate the correlation between
these two variables. Explain the business meaning of this relationship.
d. Which parts in this question are applications of descriptive statistics, inferential statistics and
measuring association? Explain.
