WHO IS
KALI?

Kali is the
FIERCE goddess
of death
and rebirth.
She’s often depicted as a violent-looking,
bare-chested woman with her tongue out, holding
severed heads in her left hand.
YIKES!
What I discovered over my months of studying her:
Kali is profoundly misunderstood.
There’s A LOT of misinformation about this dazzling
goddess.
Beyond her startling depiction, here’s what I truly
want to share with you about Kali:
• ✨Despite how she looks, Kali is not evil - she’s the
DESTROYER of evil
• ✨Kali’s entering your life NOW to strip away your
illusions, fears and self-destructive tendencies
• ✨She WANTS to plunge you into your innermost
power and highest potential
That’s what this challenge is all about — YOU,
releasing whatever it is that’s holding you back.
Kali is devoted to your liberation!
Kali wants you to love yourself wildly. She wants you
to live as your highest self, without holding any part
back. This is why she’s depicted nude - to remind us:

It’s time to be FULLY who you were

meant to be, stripping away the lies and
illusions.
Don’t worry...
You don’t have to fear Kali or this journey. Yes, Kali is known as “the
destroyer,” but what’s she’s destroying is everything FALSE that is
holding you back.
Kali’s mystery is that she represents our polarities. In addition
to her role as the “the destroyer,” she’s also “the creator” –
represented as the all-loving mother of all things. She is re-
creation and re-birth, the glories of Spring!
Kali came into MY life at a pivotal moment when I was up-leveling
my living situation, taking bigger risks in my business, dealing with
a parent’s death, and forging my identity as an empowered role
model for my son.
Kali usually enters our lives at pivotal moments of upheaval or change. Take a
moment to reflect: What changes (wanted or unwanted) are you dealing with right
now? Is there an area of your life in which your currently shedding an old skin or
forging a new identity?
WHY
WOULD
I WANT TO
WORK WITH
KALI’S
ENERGY?
Do YOU have big fears that you know are
holding you back from your full potential?
• Fear of speaking up or public speaking?
• Fear of starting a business?
• Fear of starting a family?
• Fear of committing to a relationship?
• Fear of what’s ahead, worried “the other shoe” is inevitably,
always, going to drop?
• Fear of dropping the mask and acknowledging your most
authentic self?

Do you feel an element of darkness within?

That manifests in self-destructive patterns?
• Negative self-talk that plagues you, no matter how many
self-help books you read?
• Eating disorders or self-sabotaging activities like drinking
or pursuing partners you know are “wrong” for you?
• Outbursts of anger, jealousy, judgment or shame?
Do you notice that you constantly GIVE away your power?
Often subconsciously?
• You stay quiet when you know you should speak up?
• You defer to others’ opinions instead of trusting your gut?
• You blame others and take the role of “the victim” – even
though deep down, you know you’re incredibly strong?

These are just SOME ideas. If you relate to ANY of the

above statements, working with Kali’s energy can be deeply
transformative. NOW is the time for dynamic female archetypes!
These ancient goddesses help us step into our truth and highest
potential as powerful women. For me, personally, Kali has been
one of the BEST goddesses to work with. Thanks to Kali, I’ve
experienced rapid freedom from guilt, shame, fear. What I’ve
gained is a deep sense of authenticity in my personal life.
What if I’m freaked out?!
Fear of Kali is totally common. After all, she’s known as “the destroyer.”
But she’s also known as “the creator.” Here’s the key thing: Kali is only
here to destroy what’s NOT serving you. Think of working with Kali like
a spiritual spring cleaning. She’s here to destroy anything FALSE that is
holding you back from your full potential.

Remember: What’s “destroyed” in this challenge is paving

the way for something better to open and grow.

Some fear or apprehension is normal. Kali is about radical change. But

know you’ll have me and the rest of our compassionate Uplifted group
supporting your transformation.
HISTORY OF
GODDESS
Kali is the Hindu goddess of death, time, and
doomsday—and is associated with sexuality and
violence, while also considered a strong mother-figure
and symbolic of motherly love. Kali embodies Shakti -
feminine energy, creativity and fertility. She is most often
represented in art as a fighting, frightening figure, often
uncomfortable to look at!

The name Kali means Kala or “force of time.” Her name

also derives from the Sanskrit meaning “she who is
dark” or “she who is death.” Before the creation of the
world, there was no light. The dark appearance of Kali
represents the darkness from which everything was
born. She is the mother of everything, including the
universe!

Kali is often depicted naked which according to many

sources, actually symbolizes her purity. She’s depicted
in many different ways throughout the ages and has no
permanent qualities—she will continue to exist even
when the universe ends. It is therefore believed that the
concepts of color, light, good, and bad, all do not apply
to her.
As an embodiment of time, Kali devours all things. She
is irresistibly attractive to both mortals and gods, and
can also represent (particularly in later traditions) the
benevolence of a mother goddess.

Kali is first mentioned in Hindu tradition as a distinct

goddess around 600 AD, where she’s usually found
on the periphery of Hindu society or on the battlefield.
She is closely associated with her consort, Shiva.

Kali has also been called Kālarātri (meaning “dark blue

night”). In some legends, she appears to soldiers in
dreams, until finally she appears amidst the fighting.

Her most well-known showing on the battlefield is in

the 6th century where she’s famous for destroying
two demons.

Kali’s appearance is usually dark blue with red eyes to

show her rage, wearing a tiger skin and a garland. Her
hair is disheveled and her tongue is lolling.

There are depictions showing Kali with her left foot

on Shiva’s chest. The pose shows the conclusion of
an episode when Kali was rampaging out of control
after destroying many demons. Shiva, fearing that Kali
would not stop until she destroyed the world, could
only think of one way to calm her. He lay down on
the battlefield so that she would have to step on him.
The Kalika Purana describes Kali as
possessing a soothing dark complexion,
perfectly beautiful, riding a lion,
four-armed, holding a sword and blue
lotuses, her hair unrestrained, body firm and
youthful.

Despite her associations with battle, Kali

TOP 3
LESSONS
I’VE LEARNED
FROM
KALI
1
Things aren’t always
as they appear.
It’s easy to stay on the surface level
of our life (or our yoga practice) and
miss the deeper truths and layers.
For example: Kali looks evil, but
it’s because she’s actually the
DESTROYER of evil. That’s the deeper
meaning.
2
No matter your current circumstances, you
are innately powerful. Step into your role as
a leader (especially if you are a woman!).
Maybe you tend to complain a lot (hand up! this was me!). Or you fall
into a victim-mindset, blaming others for why you can’t have what you
want (this is my default patterning!). Working with Kali elevates your
mindset and self-esteem. I’d be as bold to say that Kali is entering
your life NOW, through Uplifted, to strip away your illusions, fears and
self-destructive tendencies.
It’s time to embrace FREEDOM and AUTHENTICITY.
Kali’s here to remind you how powerful you really are:
It’s time to be FULLY yourself. Get rid of the mask, the cloak, the
anxiety, anger and doubt. Lose the artifice. Strip bare and discover
your truest self!
Read that again.
Are you getting chills?
I get chills everytime I think about this!
What if it felt OK to give yourself permission to fully shine in all areas
of your life? What if it was OK to be YOU, with all your strengths,
beauty and flaws? What would it be like to move through this life
powerful, grounded and uncensored?
3
Fear isn’t the enemy.
Working with this fierce goddess gives us
concrete tools to help us make friends
with fear on the yoga mat and in life.
The ferocious Kali helps you overcome
addictions and self-limiting beliefs. She
wants you to stop playing small.
Now, it’s YOUR TURN to welcome Kali into
your life and see what happens...

MORNING POWER
YOGA WITH TWISTS

Wild. Empowered. Ferociously loving.

Today, we connect to Kali’s intensity to break
through negative patterns in our life through a
heating, twist-focused flow. The ultimate goal:
to LET GO of what’s no longer
serving you.

TOTAL BODY
SLOW FLOW

Short on time but want to open, release and

meditate? I LOVE this class. (Not going to lie, this
class looks a lot like my own personal practice).
Today is a total body flow for emotional release
with a three minute meditation to close. Our
focus is slowing down. We explore what’s truly
going on for us under the surface — in the places
where we’re often afraid to look. All too often,
we’re not ready to look at (let alone embrace), areas of our life where we’re experiencing shame
or guilt. But Kali wants us stop rushing, slow down, and embrace our shadow-self.

It’s time to shine your wildly-loving light on any emotions that need to bubble up the surface
and release.
YOGA FOR BALANCE
WITH CROW POSE

Ever wondered WHY Kali is often depicted

slaying demons and standing (sometimes
dancing) on top of Shiva, her consort?
In today’s class, we find out!

YOGA FOR ENERGY -

RELEASE YOUR
WILD WOMAN
Has anyone (partner, partent, friend) ever called
you “too intense?” Can you remember being told
repeatedly as a child to, “be quiet,” “be a good
girl,” “be polite?” Today, it’s time to unleash the
deep intensity that runs within you and embrace
your inner wild woman.

What’s an area of your life where you can practice this idea of surrender — offering
your problem up to the goddess? Try to think of one (or more than one!). What are
you tired of figuring out on your own?
MEET KALI
GUIDED VISUALIZATION

Ask yourself: Where am I playing small? Is there an area of your life where you’re not
letting your gifts, talents or skill set shine? Why? Allow yourself to think back as far
as your childhood. So much stems from these early wounds!

HATHA FOR SURRENDER

HATHA YOGA FLOW

WITH TREE POSE

Look at all the journaling you’ve done in this past

week. Reread what makes you angry, what you
want to surrender, and where you think you’re
playing small. Having reflected on all these
things, what’s one thing you’re ready to STOP
doing, right now? It doesn’t matter whether it’s
“no more staying quiet,” “no more playing small,”
“no more people-pleasing,” or “no more unloading the dishwasher.” It just needs to be one clear
thing. It could be “no more saying something negative” that you’ve noticed you habitually say to
yourself. Write it down. Bring this ONE THING to the Kali coaching call (or the replay of the call)
available in the membership.

Starting now - what’s one thing you’re ready to let go of?

YONI MUDRA MAYAN OVARY MASSAGE

BREAST MASSAGE TIPS
• Hold the skin just under the pec where the
breast tissue begins with a strong, vice-like grip.
• We’re working with the upper, outer quadrant
of the breast. If you can’t grip as much of your
breast like I do in the video because you have
larger breasts, that’s OK! Focus only on this upper
quadrant, below the pec, closest to the arm.
• First, just squeeze as hard as you can.
• Second, pull forward, as if you wanted to pull
your breast off your body.

Your hand may cramp from holding on

so tight in these exercises. This is normal.
You can always release, shake your hand
out, and start again.

• Third, lift the elbow and place the palm on the

back of the head of neck. Optionally, make small
circles with the elbow
• BREATHE into any areas of discomfort

Please avoid if you have breast implants or

undergone any recent surgery in this area.
