The Position

EMU Health seeks an experienced professional to take the lead on shaping and managing
the human resources function to improve organizational effectiveness and support a
mission-driven, accountable and high performing culture. This individual will design and
implement strategies, systems and processes to improve workforce performance,
operational efficiency, employee enablement, and ensure the highest quality clinical
outcomes as EMU continues to grow. The ideal candidate is a seasoned HR leader who will
collaborate with senior leadership at EMU to understand goals and strategies and then
oversee implementation with minimal involvement from executives. This person should be a
human resources generalist with a track record building, or improving the impact of, the
core HR disciplines, including compensation and benefits, talent acquisition and
development, performance management, compliance and HR processes and technologies in
another healthcare organization. Because EMU Health is growing rapidly, this role requires a
highly motivated, effective cross-functional manager with business acumen, excellent
problem solving skills, strong planning and implementation skills, and the seasoning and
judgment to lead all HR functions independently and be a trusted advisor to senior leaders.

This position reports to the Chief Clinical Executive and Principal; works cross-functional
with all functions within the organization including finance, legal, IT, clinical personnel, etc.

This is an in-office position because of the integral nature of the function.

Specific responsibilities

● HR Operations:
○ Diligently manage all aspects of human resources operations and processes,
including talent acquisition and retention, payroll and benefits,
compensation, employee relations, compliance, and HRIS technology and
systems; ensure policies and practices are integrated, efficient and align
with EMU’s needs.
○ Develop and operationalize all HR policies and governance; simplify and
streamline HR processes and help managers and employees use HR systems
more effectively
○ Supervise payroll, benefits, and leave administration
○ Manage scheduling to ensure optimal clinical and administrative coverage

● Compliance/Policies
○ Implement and ensure compliance with organizational policies and
procedures
○ Stay abreast of, and ensure compliance with federal, state and local
employment law,
○ Manage administration of discipline and performance management
(evaluations, performance improvement plans, and separation of
employment)
○ Conduct and oversee internal employment investigations
○ Investigate, monitor and resolve complex employee situations from origin to
conclusion while minimizing organizational risk
○ Serve as business partner to clinical operations, IT, finance, and other
functions to support compliance, reporting, and measurement.

● Talent:
○ Lead all aspects of talent acquisition and development, including recruiting,
on-boarding, training, performance management, succession planning, and
learning.
○ Support leadership in managing organizational change. Align HR strategies
to EMU’s goals, and implement new approaches to motivate current
employees and hire high performing team members.
○ Develop approaches to attract and retain a diverse and exceptional
employee base and imbue the culture with a sense of ownership and
accountability.
Qualifications

● Bachelor’s degree, and possibly advanced degree in Human Resources, Business,


Organizational Development or related field, SPHR Certification desired
● Experience in, and deep understanding of the unique elements of, human resources
management in a healthcare organization
● 10+ years’ experience in HR function(s) with strong working knowledge of all key
functional areas such as recruiting, employee relations, compensation, and benefits
● Experience leading or helping to lead HR in a fast-growing small or mid-size
healthcare organization
● Administrative operations experience in healthcare as it pertains to HR operations
● Thorough knowledge of general and healthcare-specific employment laws, policies,
and regulations
● A solid track record supporting senior business leaders while demonstrating excellent
independent decision quality
● Demonstrated process capabilities and metrics-driven
● Excellent knowledge of HR tools and recruiting software
● Strong communications and relationship building skills and rack record of successful
collaboration at all levels of organization
● Understanding and experience with Employer Branding and Recruitment Marketing
strategies
● Critical thinker with strong problem-solving skills
● Strong level of pragmatism, organization and detail-orientation
● Ability to lead projects independently, with initiative and ownership; effective and
hands-on manager and collaborator
● Ability to build open, trusting, and honest relationships
● Projects consistent positive energy and develops agility and resilience
