Shri Sanatan Dharam Kumar Sabha, Patiala was founded in the year 1912 by Sh. Kulwant Rai
Gupta ji with a vision to serve the poor and needy people of the society. Due to the
compassionate and noble efforts of Sh. Dasondhi Ram Birji Maharaj to help the helpless and
needy, the Sabha gained popularity and donations. Over the years, it has grown to be an
umbrella organization for a variety of social activities.
In the year 2008, the reins of the Sabha were handled over to the Honorable Shri Bal Krishna
Singla ji. 17 th August, 2022 marks the 110 th anniversary of this prestigious institution. On this
memorable day, we would like to share a list of milestones and achievements of the Sabha.
1. S.D.K.S YADVINDRA PURAN BAL NIKETAN, Lahori Gate, Patiala- ORPHANAGE FOR GIRLS
The Bal Niketan was established in the year 1933 to provide a safe haven to
orphan children. Presently, there are more than 40 girl inmates who along with
boarding and lodging, are provided with quality education and vocational training.
The center is well equipped with solar system, solar geyser and 4-G WiFi facilities. It is
notable to mention two girls are currently studying engineering at Thapar University,
Patiala and a few girls are pursuing vocation of nursing.
After completion of education and attaining marriageable age, they are married in a
befitting manner. Till date, with the generous donations of all the members about 100
girls have been married and are leading a happily married life. Bal Niketan is registered
organization under Juvenile Justice Act and under Central Adoption Resource Authority
(CARA) for adoption. On 15th February, 2012 Mr. Varun Roojam, Deputy Commissioner
inaugurated PANGURA Cabin in Bal Niketan.
2. EDUCATION
The Sabha is running – (i) Atma Ram Kumar Sabha Sr. Sec. School, Safabadi Gate,
Patiala (ii) S.D Kumar Sabha Shakuntla Girls Sr. Sec. School, Lahori Gate, Patiala.
Professionally qualified and experienced teachers have been appointed for the
supervision of the students. The schools are equipped with adequate infrastructure
including an auditorium, science laboratories, computer labs, libraries, and
playgrounds. Both the schools have an affiliation from Punjab School Education Board.
3. CREMATION GROUNDS
Shri Sanatan Dharam Kumar Sabha maintains two cremation grounds situated at
Rajpura Road, Patiala and Ghalori Gate, Patiala. The surrounding area of these grounds
has a large number of trees and flower plants. Proper arrangements for sitting and
drinking water have also been made for the people accompanying the deceased.
Unclaimed dead bodies are cremated free by the Sabha. Funeral vans and Refrigerator
Box (to preserve dead body) service is also available free of cost. In addition to this,
parking facility for over 100 cars is provided in both the Cremation Grounds. The
provision for gas crematorium is installed in the Rajpura Road Cremation Grounds.
The newly inaugurated SDKS Bhawan spreads across 6000 sq yards at Rajpura Road.
The Community Center consists of two halls of 4500 sq ft., each. The center has two
meeting rooms, lift, generator and parking facility for over 100 cars. It is an excellent
space to organize activities like prayer meetings, seminars and conferences for the
people of the city.
