2 Course description
This course provides an introduction to management theory, functions, principles, values, and
techniques. The course includes a discussion of planning, organizing, influencing through leadership,
and exercising control in the organizational context.

3 Course objectives
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
1. List and describe major management theories as represented through the history of modern
management thought.
2. Define and describe the planning, organizing, leading, and controlling functions of management.
3. Describe the internal and external environments of management.
4. Demonstrate written communication skills appropriate to the profession of management.
5. Discuss ethics and social responsibility in the context of management

5 Course format
Two-hour lectures for 15 weeks.

6 Student evaluation
Course participation : 10%
Midterm test (open book) : 20%
Group assignment : 20%
Final exam (open book) : 50%

Grading scale: 10-point scale.

7 Absency policy
Regular attendance is mandatory. Students may miss no more than 20% of classes and must attend at
least 80% of the course to be eligible for the final exam.
