Course description
This course provides an introduction to management of business organizations, although
the principles addressed in the course are relevant to non-profit and public agencies as well.
Management is both art and science. It is the art of making people more effective than they
would have been without you. The science is in how you do that. Management focuses on
the entire organization from both a short and a long-term perspective. Management is the
managerial process of forming a strategic vision, setting objectives, crafting a strategy and
then implementing and executing the strategy.
Course objectives
1. Describe accurately and concisely the field of management and its basic ideas and
distinctions and their origins.
2. Use effectively the tools and concepts that promote skill in teamwork,
communication, group problem solving, interpersonal competence, and written
presentation of assignments.
3. Demonstrate creative and critical thinking and the ability to analyze issues from
multiple perspectives.
4. Communicate professionally and effectively, which is critical in the online course
format.
5. Demonstrate knowledge of organizational structures, management history and
management functions.

2. Academic Honesty: This is the cornerstone of the academic integrity of the University.
It is the foundation upon which the student builds personal integrity and establishes a
standard of personal behavior. In particular, students are expected to do their own
work on quizzes and exams. Quizzes and exams are not group assignments and the
penalty for cheating is a grade of zero for that quiz/exam.
3. Because honesty and integrity are such important factors in the professional and
managerial community, you should be aware that failure to perform within the bounds
of these ethical standards is sufficient grounds to receive a grade of “F” in this course
and be recommended for suspension from VNU-HCM.
4. Incomplete Grade: A grade of “I” (Incomplete) will be administered only under an
extreme, verifiable emergency situation where the student is unable to complete
