1. Improvement: an occasion when something gets better or when you make it better

2. Cash: money in the form of notes and coins, rather than cheques or credit cards

4. Bargain: something on sale at a lower price than its true value

5. Deal: an agreement or an arrangement, especially in business

9. Old-fashioned: not modern; belonging to or typical of a time in the past

10. Flat: level and smooth, with no curved, high, or hollow parts

11. Toss: to throw something carelessly

12. Gorgeous: very beautiful or pleasant

13. Thrilled: extremely happy about something

14. Disgusting: extremely unpleasant or unacceptable

15. Tiny: extremely small

16. Frightened: feeling fear or worry

17. Lift: a device like a box that moves up and down, carrying people or goods from one

floor of a building to another or taking people up and down underground in a mine

18. Stone: the hard, solid substance found in the ground that is often used for building

19. Silly: showing little thought or judgment

20. Weird: very strange and unusual, unexpected, or not natural


UNIT 10

1. Statement: something that someone says or writes officially, or an action done to

express an opinion

2. Fail: to not succeed in what you are trying to achieve or are expected to do

3. Grades: a level of quality, size, importance, etc.

4. Boarding school: a school where students live and study

5. Fee: an amount of money paid for a particular piece of work or for a particular right or

service

6. Subject: the thing that is being discussed, considered, or studied

7. Qualification: an official record showing that you have finished a training course or

have the necessary skills, etc.

8. Traffic jam: a large number of vehicles close together and unable to move or moving

very slowly

9. Lack: the fact that something is not available or that there is not enough of it

10. Scheme: an organized plan for doing something, especially something dishonest or

illegal that will bring a good result for you

11. Encourage: to make someone more likely to do something, or to make something

more likely to happen

12. Refuse: to say that you will not do or accept something

13. Allow: to give permission for someone to do something, or to not prevent something

from happening

14. Parkland: an area of open land with grass and trees

15. Warn: to make someone realize a possible danger or problem, especially one in the

future

16. Busy: If you are busy, you are working hard, or giving your attention to a particular

thing
17. Lane: a narrow road, esp. in the countryside or in a small town

18. Loan: an amount of money that is borrowed, often from a bank, and has to be paid

back, usually together with an extra amount of money that you have to pay as a charge

for borrowing

19. Facility: a place, especially including buildings, where a particular activity happens

20. Tram: an electric vehicle that transports people, usually in cities, and goes along metal

tracks in the road
