PROJECT I11

M: Hi girls, what will you do on vacation?

B: Hi girls!. I’m not sure yet. Do you have something in mind?

J: Hi, Miranda and Briggith. I´ve been thinking about traveling to Hawaii. What do
you think? It seems to be a nice and friendly place.

M: Yes, it seems like a good idea to me, but we must be very careful with the rules
of other countries.

B: Yes, it’s right. If we want to travel to a country, we should know its rules and
social behavior.

J: Did you have a bad experience about social behavior and rules in another
country, Miranda?

M: yees, I had a bad experience when I traveled to Japan

B: Really? What happened?

M: Yes, a while ago I traveled to Japan for work reasons and it is very different from
Peru. The restaurants are different, my family and I chose a Japanese restaurant,
but there were also options for other types of food. In the Japanese restaurant they
explained to us that it is inappropriate to listen to music without headphones, not
leaving a tip is disrespectful and they didn’t treat us well. I told my family: I think we
should have stayed in the other restaurant, not in the Japanese restaurant. but we
couldn't stay in the other restaurant because it wasn't very busy. If you travel to
Japan you must be careful with the rules.

J: Sorry to hear that. They should have treated you in another way. It was
inappropriate.

B: I agree with Janis. They were disrespectful. If they had ban notices, that wouldn't
have happened. Something similar happened to me.

Two years ago, I traveled to Turkey and walked out of my hotel to a very famous and
well-known church called Hagia Sophia. I was anxious to visit that very famous
church but I didn’t know about its rules to be able to enter. When I was entering the
church, the security man told me that it’s disrespectful to enter with hair like that, I
had to cover my hair. He also told me that I could not enter with shoes.
I didn’t understand the reasons but I had to follow the rules and be able to enter.
M: hmm.. and How did you feel about that?
B: I felt very embarrassed, I should have found out the rules and social behavior of
that country, I was very irresponsible, my behavior was unacceptable, inaccurate
and disrespectful. If I had informed myself, this wouldn’t have happened.
J: In my case, I had a social behavior and a crime experience the same day! My
friend and I traveled to Mexico last year. Exactly in Mexico City. It seemed to be a
normal day. We went to a bus stop. A lot of people were in line, but we thought that
they were waiting to cross the street. When the bus came, we entered and people
started complaining. Then, the driver told us that they always wait in line. I wish we
had known this before. I know that we were irresponsible. If we had researched
more information, this problem might not have happened. Then we witnessed a
mugging.
M: Really? What happened?
J: We were leaving a shopping mall when we heard a woman who was screaming.
There was a thief who took the bag of the woman in front of us. Even though she
tried to get her bag again, the thief ran and got away. Nobody helped her, so my
friend and I decided to talk with her. We were very respectful when we said that she
shouldn´t have struggled. If the thief had had a gun, the situation would have been
more dangerous. Then, my friend called the police. She was responsible. I was
upset because people preferred to ignore what happened. It was unacceptable. I
wish people were more empathetic. After that, the police said that the thief could
have gone to the park nearby because they found the bag without the belongings.
Sadly, they said that the maximum penalty for this crime is a fine.
M: I think there should be more authority figures on the streets.
B: Yes Miranda. I agree with you. If we had more authority figures on the streets like
police, we wouldn’t have to live things like these. Something similar happened to
me.
J: What happened? Was it a crime?
B: Last week, I was on the bus and I saw a guy enter with a very strange behavior.
He sat behind a girl and I noticed that he looked at her a lot. At that moment the boy
took the girl's cell phone and ran away. It was so fast I couldn’t do anything.
M: ooh I’m so sorry about that, and how did you feel?
B:I felt very bad. If I had warned the girl about him, he might not have stolen his cell
phone.
J:  It´s too bad when you experience a crime. What about you Miranda? Did you
witness a crime?
M: Yees, Last week I was at the store and I saw a Boy get robbed. Two thieves
approached and took his wallet from his hands and fled, the boy was very scared by
the crime.
I wish I could help him, but I was scared too. Nowadays there is vandalism
everywhere and they cause riots in the streets and there is always looting. If they
stopped stealing, it would be a very safe street.
B: This is really true Miranda, there is a lot of vandalism and gangs, too. For this
reason, we need to be more careful.
M: If we travel to Hawaii we have to be careful and have a lot of luck so that
everything goes well on the trip.
J: That's correct. So, we will be in touch. Call you later. Bye!
B: Bye girls!
