Exercises using Food Exchange List provided:

8. Mother prepares a breakfast for her 18 year old nursing student – 5 strips of bacon, 6
pieces small pandesal, and 1 glass of low fat milk. How many calories did the 18 year
old student take?

466 calories 646 calories 505 calories 550 calories

9. A group of nursing students prepares a meal for food presentation. They prepares 4
slices of tasty bread spread with 2 teaspoon of condensed milk, 1 cup of rice with low

salad if I made a fruit salad out of 24 tablespoon canned fruit cocktail and 6 teaspoon
condensed milk?

360 calories 308 calories 370 calories 380 calories

Compute for your TER per day. Make a menu planning by computing the CPF grams
provided for a day. The client eats during breakfast = 11/2 cup of rice, 2 pieces chicken
egg, fried in 1 teaspoon of canola oil, 1 tetra brick of magnolia low fat milk and water;
am snack = 2 goldilocks ensaymada and 1 cup canned pineapple juice sweetened;
lunch = 2 cups of rice, 4 slices of ham fried in 1 teaspoon of canola oil, 3 glasses of
water, and 1 slice of watermelon; pm snack = 6 pieces mammon tostado and water;
dinner = 6 slices of tasty bread, 6 teaspoon of strawberry jam and water.
Analyze the problem and present the problem:
1. What is your BMI and its classification?
In my case, my height is 160cm and my weight is 45kg
5 X 12 = 60 + 3 = 63 inches X 2. 54 centimeters = 160.02
160.02 ÷ 100 = 1.6002
1.6 X 1.6 = 2.56m

and the BMI Formula is:

BMI = weight (kg)/ height (m)2

BMI = 45kg/2.56m = 17.6 (Underweight)

2. What is your Desirable Body Weight?

Height = 160cm - 100 = 60
60 x 10% = 6
60 – 6 = 54 kg

3. What is the difference between your ideal body weight and your actual weight?
The difference between the two is that ideal body weight is the amount a person weighs
if he or she has an appropriate percentage of body fat and actual weight is the amount
that a package weighs on a scale, not considering the size or volume.

4. What is your TER?

TER = 54 x 35 = 1,890 kcal/day

5. What is the CPF in grams?

1, 890 x .50 = 945 / 4 = 236
1, 890 x .20 = 378 / 4 = 95
1, 890 x .30 = 567 / 9 = 63
C = 236 grams
P = 95 grams
F = 63 grams

Compute for the food exchange list for breakfast. am snack, lunch, pm snack and dinner
in relation to distribution of CHO in grams, CHON in rams, Fat in grams and calories
taken for a day.

6. What is the total carbohydrate in grams in a day?

Breakfast: 69 cho + 12 cho = 81 cho
AM Snack: 46 cho + 20 cho = 66 cho
Lunch: 92 cho + 10 cho = 102 cho
PM Snack: 46 cho = 46 cho
Dinner: 69 cho + 15 cho = 84 cho

TOTAL: 379 g CHO

7. What is the total protein in grams in a day?
Breakfast: 6 chon + 16 chon + 8 chon = 30 chon
AM Snack: 4 chon
Lunch: 8 chon + 32 chon = 40 chon
PM Snack: 4 chon
Dinner: 6 chon

TOTAL: 84 g CHON

8. What is the total fat in grams in a day?

Breakfast: 12 fat + 5 fat + 5 fat = 22 Fat
AM Snack: 0
Lunch: 40 fat + 5 fat = 45 Fat
PM Snack: 0
Dinner: 0

TOTAL: 67 g FAT

9. What is the total calorie intake in a day?

Breakfast: 300 + 172 + 45 +125 calories = 642 calories
AM Snack: 200 + 80 calories = 280 calories
Lunch: 400 + 488 + 45 + 40 calories = 973 calories
PM Snack: 200 calories = 200 calories
Dinner: 300 + 60 calories = 360 calories

TOTAL: 2455 calories

10. Is there any health implication on what have you eaten on the day and why?
Yes, because food provides our bodies with the "information" and ingredients they
require to function effectively. If we do not receive accurate information, our metabolic
processes suffer and our health suffers. We can become overweight, undernourished,
and at risk of developing diseases and disorders such as arthritis, diabetes, and heart
disease if we consume too much food or food that provides our bodies the wrong
instructions.

In a nutshell, what we eat is critical to our health. Consider the following definition of
medicine: "the science and art dealing with the maintenance of health and the
prevention, alleviation, or cure of disease."

Food acts as medicine--to maintain, prevent, and treat disease.
