ITEM 102 – EXPLOSIVES AND BLASTING

102.1 SCOPE

This section includes removal and clearing of existing materials by blasting.

102.2 STORAGE HANDLING AND WORK METHODS

1. The Contractor shall store explosives in suitable building or warehouses, the construction and
location of which shall comply with all the requirements of the appropriate government
authorities and shall be to the approval of the “Engineer”. The Contractor shall obtain all the
necessary permits and the storage handling and use of explosives and shall comply with all
the requirements of the proper Government authorities. The Government shall ensure those
storage places and shall be accessible only to authorize persons and that there is no
unauthorized issue or improper use of explosives bought on the site.

2. Explosives shall be handled in conformity with the statutory regulations only by responsible
men experienced in the use of explosives and who shall be to the approval of the “Engineer”.

3. All the drilling and blasting shall be done in such a manner as to bring the excavation and
clearing as close as possible to the required cross-sections and to disturb as little as possible
the material to be left in place. Blasting by means of drill holes, tunnels or any other method
shall be performed at the entire risk and responsibility of the Contractor who shall have no
claim to payment for Extra Work occasioned by breakage outside the approved cross-section.

4. Greatest care shall be taken by the Contractor during all blasting operations to ensure that
no injury be done to persons or damage to property or to finished work. Shots shall be
properly loaded and capped and only a moderate charge shall be used in each hole. The
Contractor for checking by the “Engineer” shall keep showing locations and amounts, a
register of all explosives used.

5. Where directed by the “Engineer” the Contractor shall provide heavy mesh blasting mats for
protection of persons, property and works. If found necessary, blasting shall be restricted to
times prescribe by the “Engineer”.

6. The “Engineer” may prohibit and order the rock to be excavated by other means, if in his
opinion, it would be dangerous to persons and adjacent property, or is being carried out in
reckless manner. If activities in the area are to be interrupted, the Contractor shall obtain the
approval of his blasting schedule for such interruption from the proper authorities and shall
satisfy the “Engineer” that he obtained it.

102.3 MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT

The measurement of quantity of blasting and removal of structures shall be in cubic meter or
lump sum basis.
