Book Title: THE WORLDS FUNNIEST BOOK OF POEMS

Author: Sam Jam

- Summarize the book. What is the Story About? Please elaborate in 100 words
or more

This book is titled as “THE WORLDS FUNNIEST BOOK OF POEMS”, consisting of 23

poems written by Sam Jam & illustrated by Eamonn O’Boyle. This book is written for
children. It is very enjoyable to read as there is humor in each and every poem. It is
very difficult to read these poems without them bringing a smile, but I read these
bringing a huge laughter while I sat on the couch to read this and everyone in my
room were very interested in what I was reading.

As instructed to me by my librarian, I will focus on a couple of poems in this book

that caught my attention and that I thoroughly enjoyed and will express myself about
them here.

The first poem I enjoyed because of the surprising twist at the end is titled as “Echo
Co”. This is a story when the author was young and had a dream about building an
echo machine. And after he becomes a grown-up, he does build an echo machine,
and starts to have a conversation with the machine next.

As he speaks the echo machine repeats what he says – this conversation is so funny
it really seems as though the echo machine is replying back to him, but in reality, it
just is an echo of his own voice of the ending words or sometimes more words as he
speaks into it. The twist in the story comes when in the end he feels that the echo
machine is bossing over him and also is frustrating him by repeating the words he
says and tells the machine not to repeat what he is saying. At that moment the voice
from the echo machine is no longer his echo and tells him that what it said now was
not repeating his words, and so the author now jumps out of his seat and runs away
thinking that it must be a ghost!

The second poem I will like to elaborate is “Alien Maths”. It is a story where the
aliens take over the world and every boy and girl go and hide except for the author,
and he is ready to save the world. The aliens from a planet called Blerg set up a
maths test for all the species of the different planets and whichever species scored
the best, would be declared as a victor of the planets. Each planet of our galaxy
chose one brave soul and representing the earth was the author. While simple
questions like two times two was answered with unknown alien words by other
planet representatives and was appreciated by the judge for being correct, it made
the author fear as he was not understanding the language at all. As his turn came up,
he decided to make up an answer with an unknown word and when the judge asked
the question he tells the unknown word to the judge, and to his surprise after a
moment of silence, the judge mentioned it was correct. It was later found by the
author that the judge himself did not know maths, however in the end he was happy
to save the planet earth.

- Is there any character in the story that you liked & why?

In this book, I liked the alien judge character from the poem mentioned above “Alien
Maths”, because of the way the alien judge was reacting to the answers being told to
him to the questions he was asking all the species from the different planets.
Without knowing the subject maths, the alien judge was asking questions in maths
and also pretending and responding to the wrong and unknown funny words that the
alien species were answering - as correct and not correct, and once I realized this at
the end of the poem when I got to know that the alien judge does not know maths, I
burst out laughing loudly.

- What part did you like in the book?

I just loved the poem “Echo Co” and in that the conversation that the author has with
the echo machine he created, because it really seems that the echo machine is
talking to the author, the words the author used to talk to the echo machine and the
response from the echo machine was so good, for example, as the author says
“loads of fun”, he could hear the echo from the echo machine saying “often often”. I
truly enjoyed the words used in this conversation and had a big smile.
- Would you try to sketch your imaginative replica of a scene in the book or any
character image from the story.
