ABSTRACT
Women empowerment and gender inequality have become topics of utmost importance
in the recent times, because gender inequality and its socio-economic and cultural dimension
are all pervasive in the third world as well as in the developed world. However, in the third
world the problem of gender inequality is more acutely associated with economic
disempowerment of women.

INTRODUCTION
Today, in most of the developing countries, more and more emphasis laid on the need
for the development of women and their active participation in the main stream of
development process. It is widely recognized that women in india had been kept in dark in
the name of custom, tradition and religious faith. The prospects for development had been
given the opportunity.

MEANING OF WOMEN EMPOWERMENT


The term “ empowerment of women” refers to the process of providing power to
woman to become free from the control of others, that is, to assume power to control her own
life and to determine her own conditions.
“women empowerment refers to increasing the spiritual’ political, social or economic
strength of women. It often involves the empowered developing confidence in their own
capacities”.

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY


 To explain the nature and extent of rural poverty and how it effects the living
conditions of the women.
 To identify briefly and state the socio economic features of the rural women.
 To bring out the need for significance of the economic empowerment of the rural
women.
 To make some useful policy recommendations to strengthen micro finance
movement through

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM


The women ‘question’ is variously described in the literature as women exploitation,
women oppression, discrimination against women and gender inequality.

SCOPE OF THE STUDY


The studies mainly concentrate on the women empowerment through self help groups
in chamarajanagar taluk.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
SOURCES OF DATA COLLECTION :-
The present study is based on primary as well as secondary data. To collect the
primary data, presented personally 50 women members of SHGs. The sample members are
selected from 10 SHGs from in around chamarajanagar taluk , chamarajanagara district.
The secondary data are collected from newspapers, books and journals, websites, etc.

CONCLUSION
Impact of economic empowerment of women there can be no real progress of a
country if women are not made partners in the process of development. To improve any
society, development of both male and female and should be on equal footing. empowerment
of women is an active , multi-dimensional process, which should enable women to realize
their pure identity and power in all spheres of life.
