Similarities and Differences of Doodle fiction, Manga and Graphic

Novel

Hello, it’s me Eureka and today’s blog post covers up the differences and
similarities of those three literary genres in the aspects of structures and elements.

As we all know, there is a variety of literary genres and each of them has different
characteristics such as in terms of format, creativity and the way they are used. Those literary
pieces that we read, watch and listen to can be categorized into several literary genres. Those
are used to entertain, inform and preserve one’s culture. Now, let’s go back to the topic! First
up, I will be talking over about Doodle fiction.

Doodle Fiction
Doodle fiction is a literary presentation where the author incorporates doodle writing, drawings
and handwritten graphics. As the name states, its illustrations are basically just doodles. It doesn’t have
any elaborate and intricately digital drawings but rather just simple ones, clear enough to convey a
message what the characters in the story are feeling and what they are doing. It uses handwritten
elements in writing its text and drawings. It’s a non-fiction literary genre so it narrates real-life situations
in a very entertaining way. It is quite different from the rest of the three because it follows a novel or a
storybook type of narration.

Moving on, let’s talk about one of the literary genre made from Japan. Heads up! Next in
line is a brief introduction about Manga.

Manga
Manga is a Japanese-style comics that is read from right to left. Basically, Manga is a Japanese
word for comics and other graphic novels that are originally published in Japan. There are several types
such as Shonen (Boy’s Manga), Shojo (Girl’s Manga), Seinen (Men’s Manga), Josei (Women’s Manga) and
Kodomo (Children’s Manga). It uses specific Japanese art style in terms of graphics which makes it
different from the graphic novel and doodle fiction. It also uses Japanese word characters but there are
also English-translated versions. The elements of this literary genre pertains, exclusively to the Japanese.

Lastly, which is the last subtopic of this blog, I’ll be discussing the last literary genre.
Next up! Graphic Novel.
Graphic Novel
This literary genre is narrative and written in comic book format, being read from left to right. In
terms of structure, it uses panels to separate scenes, gutters, speech balloons, narration, sound effects,
motion, lines and background color. Despite having a lot of elements, it is pretty much similar to Manga,
except that Manga is way off more Japanese in style.

To summarize everything, the Graphic Novel and Manga has a lot of similarities when
it comes to structure but quite different when it comes to elements since Manga is
basically more of a Japanese than Graphic Novel. Doodle fiction on the other hand, is
way too different amongst the three since it uses doodle elements, a non-fiction and
written in storybook format.
