1. What is the main topic of the speech?

2. Make a list of the five phrases you liked the most.
3. Make a critical reflective analysis with the message given in the speech of 1 page.

Answer

1. The main theme of which Noam

Chomsky speaks is how the term
“GLOBALIZATION” or also called
“INTERNATIONAL
INTEGRATION” has been used by a
small group of large and powerful
investors to denote their own version of
what international integration is, and
anyone who opposes this version is
against globalisation.
2. I liked the five sentences better:

 "The core of free trade, second Adam, is what I call "Free movement of labour",
means that people can go wherever they want. If we don’t have that, we can’t even
start talking about free trade."

 "Everyone agrees that trade between Mexico and the U.S. has grown. But not
according to Adam’s parameters"

 "There was a lot of movement of goods across the border, but about 50% was
internal between the same company, that is not trade, at least, according to the
parameters of the classical economy."

 "The term Globalization has been appropriated by a narrow group of power to

refer to its own version of what is international integration, the version of investors'
rights."

 “Wages fell sharply, and investment fell, which is what is called an "economic
miracle" for NAFTA, which means disaster for the majority of the population."

3. The term "globalization" has acquired

a strong emotional charge. Some see
globalization as a beneficial process "a
key to future economic development in
the world", while inevitable and
irreversible. Others see it with
hostility, even fear, because they see it
as creating greater inequality within
and between countries, threatening
employment and living conditions and
hindering social progress. This note provides an overview of some aspects of
globalization and seeks to identify how countries can benefit from this process, while
realistically assessing the potential and risks involved.

Globalization offers great opportunities for truly global development, but it is not
advancing in a uniform manner. Some countries are integrating into the world
economy faster than others. In countries that have managed to integrate, economic
growth is faster, and poverty is falling.

The crises triggered in the emerging markets in the 1990s have clearly shown that the
opportunities offered by globalisation are counterbalanced by the risk of volatile
capital flows and the risk of a deterioration in the social situation, because of poverty.

For all stakeholders-in developing or advanced countries and, of course, for investors--
this is not a reason to back down but to support reforms that strengthen economies and
the global financial system to achieve faster growth and ensure poverty reduction.

How can developing countries, especially the poorest, be helped to make up lost
ground? Does globalization exacerbate inequality, or can it help reduce poverty? Are
countries integrated into the world economy inevitably exposed to instability? These
are some of the questions that are being addressed. In fact, as Chomsky often evidences,
the United States does not believe in free trade applied to it but applied only to non-
Western countries. That is, it imposes globally what the U.S. does not practice. World
leaders, whose industries and businesses have largely protected their industry and
agriculture, impose free trade on poor countries. It is the typical «funnel law».

In matters of foreign policy, Chomsky often refers to the high level of indoctrination
that occurs in his country, which causes many people, especially in the cult sector, not
to react against neoliberal policies that seriously harm them. The basic objective of
economic globalization is to globalize the entire world economy, and since the USA is
the richest country on the planet and controls the world economy, with the support of
its satellite agencies (the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and the World
Trade Organization) means that the world economy is being inexorably adapted to suit
US investors and entrepreneurs.
