12 Corrective Actions for Correlating Fault Conditions

12.1 No Power
1) Check that the power cord is plugged-in correctly.
 Check power cord plug-in conditions on both the product and outlet.

2) Check for any irregularities in the power supply.

 Position the select switch of the tester to the AC voltage measure mode (~V) and insert
test probe into the outlet to confirm flow of AC220V.
 Take caution for dangers of electric shocks.

Position to the AC
Voltage measure
Mode

3) Check, that power switch on the back of the product is turned ON.

On Condition Off Condition

13

4) Check for power supplied to LCD screen on front.

5) If power is not turned on after completing steps (1)~(3) then turn the product
upside down to loosen 4 screws and remove the bottom panel.

Loosen 4 screws in areas

marked and remove the
bottom panel

6) After removing the bottom panel, check for Fuse glass tube damages or wiring
disconnection in the SMPS.

Proper Fuse
No irregularities in the
glass tube and no
trace of disconnection
in the inner sting wire
core.

 If damaged, replace the fuse. (Specification: 250V 5A). If fuse damage recurs after
replacing the fuse, replace the SMPS.
7) Use the tester to check the voltage of the connector marked on the SMPS.

Connector indicated by
marking is a DC12V
output terminal of the
SMPS and, if
abnormalities exist, will
not Output DC12V.

How to check SMPS voltage using the tester:

 Position the select switch of the tester to the DC voltage measure mode (--V).
 Connect the red test probe to the red connector wire and the black test probe to the
black connector wire.
 Check that either 12V or -12V voltage is measured on the tester.
14

If 12V or -12V output is not measured, replace the SMPS.

12.2 No Increase in Temperature
1) Check the current temperature setting.
 If temperature is not set at this time, proceed to temperature setting, and then press the
Jog Shuttle switch to check the heating operation.
2) Check if “Err1” appears on the LCD screen.
2.1) if “Err1” not appear.
a) Place the product upside down, unscrew 4 bolts and remove the bottom panel.

Loosen 4 screws in areas

marked and remove the
bottom panel

b) In the SMPS, disconnect the Heater connector indicated below and measure the
Heater resistance.

Position the select switch of the tester to the resistance measure mode (Ω) and place the test
probe on the Heater connector. If resistance (approx. 80Ω) is outside the limits, replace the
upper plate. (Consult the Technical Support Team).
If resistance is acceptable, insert the connector in the intended position.
15

c) Use the Mode button and Jog Shuttle knob to activate the heating operation.
d) To check proper operation of the SSR attached to the SMPS, check the SSR
output terminal indicated on the figure below. Position the select switch of the
tester to the AC voltage measure mode (~V) and connect the test probe as
shown in the figure below.

After the heating operation, check if the SSR LED mounted on the SMPS illuminates.

During the heating operation, if the SSR LED is illuminated but approx. 220V is not measured
from the SSR output terminal, replace the SMPS.
e) Check the Main PCB (Controller). Disconnect the connector from the Heating
output terminal J3 of the Main PCB (Controller).

J3 Terminal
16

 Position the select switch of the tester to the DC voltage measure mode (--V) and place
the test probe on the J3 terminal where the connector was disconnected.
 If approx. 5V or -5V is registered on the tester, the Main PCB (Controller) is normal.
 If 5V or -5V is not measured from the J3 terminal, replace the Main PCB (Controller).
 During the replacement, take off the Jog Shuttle cap on the front and then, using a tool,
loosen the nut to replace the Main PCB (Controller).
2.2) when “Err1” develops.
a) If “Err1” develops, disconnect the built-in sensor connector of the Main PCB
(Controller) then measure the resistance of the built-in sensor using the tester.

 Position the select switch of the tester to the resistance measure mode (Ω) and connect
the test probe to the connector.
 If resistance (approx. 110Ω) is outside the limits, replace the upper Plate. (Consult the
Technical Support Team).
 If resistance is acceptable, insert the connector in the intended position.
b) From the SMPS disconnect the Heater connector indicated in the figure below
and measure the Heater resistance.

 Position the select switch of the tester to the resistance measure mode (Ω) and connect
the test probe to the connector.
 If resistance (approx. 80Ω) is outside the limits, replace the upper Plate. (Consult the
Technical Support Team).
 If resistance is acceptable, insert the connector in the intended position.
 If a) and b) are normal, check the previous category 2.1) “when Err1 does not appear”
c), d) and e) sequentially then proceed to replace the SMPS or the Main PCB
(Controller).
12.3 No Stirring Movement
1) Check visually for foreign substances present in between the Stirring Magnet and
Hotplate.
17

 After checking for presence of foreign substances in the stirring motor as indicated on
the screen, check if the motor rotates smoothly using a screwdriver or other similar
thickness stick.
 Remove foreign substance if present.
2) Check the current RPM setting.
 If RPM is not preset, set the RPM and then press the Jog Shuttle knob to check the
stirring movement.
3) When stirring, “Err2” develops after the motor is operational.
3.1) Concurrent with the stirring motion, current RPM is measured but measured
erratically on the LCD display.
a) Place the product upside down, unscrew 4 bolts and remove the bottom panel.

Loosen 4 screws in areas

marked and remove the
bottom panel

b) This is contributed to the presence of foreign substances in the RPM sensor, thus
clean the RPM sensor.

Detach the RPM sensor from the

motor and clean the sensor.

c) If current RPM is measured erratically after cleaning, replace the sensor.

d) If the stirring movement remains improper after replacing the sensor, replace the
Main PCB (Controller).
3.2) Concurrent with the stirring motion, unable to measure current RPM on the
LCD Display.
a) Place the product upside down, unscrew 4 bolts and remove the bottom panel.
18

b) If stirring remains irregular after having replaced the sensor, replace the Main
PCB (Controller).

Replace the RPM sensor

4) When stirring, the motor is disabled and “Err2” develops.

Motor Terminal

 Disconnect the connector from the motor terminal of the Main PCB (Controller) and then
measure the resistance.
 Resistance varies between 10~30Ω due to the characteristics of the motor.

 Position the select switch of the tester to the resistance measure mode (Ω) and place the
test probe on the motor connector.
 Replace the motor if measured resistance is 0 or 0F. (Consult the Technical Support
Team).
 If stirring motion remains irregular after replacing the motor, replace the Main PCB
(Controller).
13 Cautions.
 Use of hotplates covered in aluminum foil continues transference of radiant heat to lower
electrical parts of the product and could develop into a faulty condition. Please
prohibit using the hotplate covered in aluminum foil.
 Use only the genuine parts provided by EMCLAB Instruments if replacement part is
necessary due to a product malfunction during use.
