BARANGAY ISSUANCES ON THE PROVISION OF HEALTH SERVICES

The barangay health station is a basic, first hand health care facility. In the
grassroot level, it can cater vital health services to the community. It has
numerous purpose, serving different populations. From immunizations, prenatal
care, monitoring of morbidity, to serving as part of the referral system, the
barangay health station is an important part of establishing a healthy
community.

A barangay health center is a community-based and the goal is to offer


first aid, maternal and child health care, communicable diseases and other basic
health services to all the constituents of the barangay.

Health services in Barangay Mabacan is given three days in a week by a


nurse who is assigned by the rural health unit. Services such as :

 Immunization
 Maternal and child healthcare
 Distribution of family planning paraphernalia
 Health education (Counselling and Mothers’ Class – Pabasa sa Nutrisyon)
 Prenatal care
 Monitoring of medical cases like hypertension, diabetes, etc. are
done
 OPT
 Micro-nutrient Supplementation given to 0-59 months old
 Iron with folate supplementation given to pregnant and lactating
women

Barangay Health Centers follow a schedule of medical services from


Monday to Friday. Below is the Barangay Mabacan Health Center’s schedule:

 Monday – Morbid (sick community members)


 Tuesday – Prenatal, postnatal and other pregnancy related cases
 Wednesday – Immunization
 Thursday – Morbid (sick community members)
 Friday – Senior citizens

Fundamentals of Barangay Health Center:


 It should cater to health center patients.
 It should be able to provide primary health care services.
 Most medicines that are available in the health center are given for
free.
 Services rendered should be free for the members of the community.

Who Barangay Health Centers serve:


Barangay residents of all ages.
Barangay residents of all races and ethnicity.
Barangay residents with or without health insurance.

Procurement of the equipment and supplies for the barangay health center and
the honorarium of Barangay Health Workers (BHW) and Barangay Nutrition
Scholar (BNS) are allotted in the budget of the barangay.
