RULES AND GUIDELINES FOR CHESS AND DAMA

FRECORLYMPICS 2023 Abides the the rules and regulations governed By FIDE
Laws Of Chess (2022) And The Following Ground Rules:
1. Chess shall be played as an individual competition in both Standard/Rapid chess
2. One player for every team/delegation ( no Age limit and Gender reference)
3. Players should be arranged in alphabetical order
4. Round Robin System for Bracket A and bracket B

Bracket A Pairings for 5 Players Bracket B Pairings for 6 Players


Round 1: 1-bye, 2-5, 3-4 Round 1: 1-6, 2-5, 3-4
Round 2: 4-bye, 5-3, 1-2 Round 2: 6-4, 5-3, 1-2
Round 3: 2-bye, 3-1, 4-5 Round 3: 2-6, 3-1, 4-5
Round 4: 5-bye, 1-4, 2-3 Round 4: 6-5, 1-4, 2-3
Round 5: 3-bye, 4-2, 5-1 Round 5: 3-6, 4-2, 5-1

5. Top 3 winners for bracket A and top 3 winners for bracket B will proceed to finals
Pairings for 6 Players ( Final Rounds)
Round 1: 1-6, 2-5, 3-4
Round 2: 6-4, 5-3, 1-2
Round 3: 2-6, 3-1, 4-5
Round 4: 6-5, 1-4, 2-3
Round 5: 3-6, 4-2, 5-1
6. 20 minutes time control for each player ( Chess and Dama)

Extension of games if needed 1:00 – 3:00

7. Coaches and spectators are not allowed to make post game analysis within the playing
area.
8. Players are not allowed to eat and drink at the playing venue while the game is in
progress.
They may ask permission from the chess arbiters to leave the playing area for this
purpose using on their own time.

9. Players who have finished their games should leave the playing area and considered
as spectators.
10. Irregularities and Penalties
10.1Mobile phones and other means of electronic devices are strictly prohibited inside
the playing area.
10.2 No defaulting time unless he/she still have a remaining time allotted shown on
the chess clock.

11. Recording of moves in algebraic notation is not mandatory.

12. Illegal moves / failure to meet article 4 of FIDE Laws of Chess


12.1First offense - warning, plus 2 minutes to opponent
12.2 Second offense – loss of the game , however the game is drawn if the position is
such that the opponent cannot checkmate the players king by any series of legal
move.
12.3 Minor offense e.q. displacement of the pieces , player misbehavior, incorrect
claiming of draw, improper handling of chess clock and others.

13. Game points Scoring System


13.1A player is credited 1 point for a win, 0.5 or 1/2 for a drawand zero for a loss.

14. Tie breaks for round robin system:


1. Direct encounter
2. Sonneborn-berger
3. Koya system
4. Armageddon ( rematch game for multiple tie with 5 minutes time control)

15. All other matters not covered in this rule shall be decided by the organizers/ Technical
Committee who reserves the right to amend or alter any provision of the above
mentioned rules and regulations for the success and interest of the tournament.
