1. Do you think those who are bilingual can work as an interpreter?

Why (not)?
 Being bilingual is definitely the foundation of becoming an interpreter,
however, interpreting requires more refined linguistic skills. Interpreters are
expected to keep up with the conversation regardless of the topic because
there isn't time for stopping and wondering how to formulate sentences.
 Besides being bilingual does not make you an interpreter, even if people
like to think it does. Mastering two languages are only the basic requirement
that professional interpreters meet. Merely speaking two languages is not
enough to work as an interpreter.
 Only when you mastered two languages or more, remember you must
reach a mastered level, you have linguistic skills, lecture skills and perfect
listening skills. Only in that case, you can become a professional interpreter.
 If you are a dilettantish interpreter and have your first interview, you
can make some of these mistakes: you can’t impart the right information
from the speaker to the listener, making both speaker and listener feel
confused and lost confidence. Or maybe you know only the basics,
understand a language but don’t have enough grammar knowledge to
translate it, etc.
2. What are some mistakes made by the assistant?
 Sometimes, the assistant can not be a PA and interpreter at the same time.
The assistant may be bilingual but not an interpreter.
 The interpreter does not need to know about any business or finances, their
duty was conveying the meaning of the speakers.
 If the assistant was not trained, he/she can not convey the exact meaning of
the speakers.
 The speakers must speak for the client and must convey exactly what he/she
heard.
3. Is the negotiation successful? Why (not)?
=> The negotiation was not successful due to the mistakes that the assistant made,
the visitor doesn’t know who she is dealing with, and she also can’t convey exactly
the meaning of her boss's speech and did the negotiation instead of her boss.
4. Give the definition of an interpreter.
=> An interpreter is a person that is a bridge, connect two-person of two different
cultures together. They are a channel through which people speak different
languages and they serve as a link to connect them. Conveying the true meaning,
correct role and using first-person speaking
5. Give the definition of interpreting
=> Interpreting is to explain or tell the meaning of something, there are many
kinds of interpreting, such as interpreting as a tour guide, interpreting national
folklore, interpreting from texts, interpreting lectures, etc.
